I Took My New Modded Cibola Out On A Relic Hunt Today :tesoro::usaflag:

I waited the rain out and headed off to an old site to do some relic hunting. I first started out with 5.75 inch concentric coil, but ended up putting the 8 inch doughnut coil on. It wasn't trashy enough that the doughnut coil couldn't handle it and I wanted a little more coverage and depth. My first discrimination setting was just high enough to eliminate iron nails, but I later decided that a higher setting would work better so I moved the discrimination up to where a foil cap discriminates out. The Cibola really does have a good audio response and runs quiet and smooth. I was digging most everything, but I could easily tell on most targets if it was a coin or not by listening to the audio response. I ended up finding a silver ring, 5 old wheat pennies (1928, 1920, 1925, 1916, 1945), 1943 war nickel, a 1935 Buffalo Nickel, a bunch of relics and some modern change. I'm pretty certain that I like this modded Cibola better than my Vaquero, but I don't think I like it as much as my Tejon. That may change once I get more familiar with the Cibola.

I was a muddy cold wet mess today. :detecting: Next time I'm taking a break and turning the discrimination up and just dig silver. :)

Tabman, that is a great day with a new machine. If I only had a place that nice to hunt with so many targets in the ground I honestly think I would be standing out there in the pouring rain hunting them. You got some great places from what I can tell. Thanks for sharing about the modded cibola.

Nice finds Tab
You really gave that Cibola a workout.

Don't think I would notch out just to find silver if I am finding all those nice finds. Great variety...... Nice job

you have not used the cibola much I think you did pretty well mate. Nice finds btw. Time will tell I guess if the cibola takes over as your favourite :)
Cheers!

Tab it did well, you can shire dig a lot of targets, looks like well over 100 look forward to your continued assessment of this machine

Congratulations on all the nice finds, I think that Cibola was made for you Tab.

Great job Tabman.. I have been checking back to hear your report on the modded Cibola. What I really like about your post is the fact that you show the trash along with the goodies. You gotta dig trash to get the goodies and some just don't seem to understand that.

Within the next few weeks I will be ordering a Tejon and can hardly wait. In my mild sandy soil I think she's gonna be DEEP! I was ready to buy a F70 until I read Mastering the Tesoro Vaquero and Tejon. I figured that I am already familiar with the Tesoro language so it would be an easier transition. Beside that my work life is high tech/complicated enough, simple and effective is what I really want when detecting. Next up after the Tejon is a 10 x 12 for the Silver uMax. I will reground balance with this coil and maybe even add a ground balance pot. Then I got my eyes set on a Deleon, probably used. Forgot to mention, I still don't have a Compadre.......

Cool finds! Looks like nothing will be able to hide from you and that modded Cibola.

It just doesn't get much better than that first time around, bet you were bushed after all them holes
I sure would be, and excited at the same time, anticipating the next round.
Sure glad you don't live in CO, you're not leavin much for the next fella'

That was a great hunt Tabman. Very nice assortment of finds.

Nice finds Tab.

You need to update your laundry list of detectors, the modded Cibola is not there.

Thanks. I have it updated now. :)

I have a NEL Sharpshooter coil coming tomorrow. I'm going to be doing some testing with it to see how it does on my Cibola and Tejon.:detecting:

I have a really good feeling about this coil/detector combo. I'll let everyone know how it goes.
