Seems to be the typical, average person who buys a detector.

I agree..No one should buy a detector... And when you do not:)..make sure you e-mail me your address... I already have some, so I may as well detect your area.....………

Hahahaha don't you just hate articles like the one linked to. It's the only hobby I have ever stuck with..and I have had plenty of Hobbies..

Sure I will take a break from time to time..but I always go back to detecting.

This link keeps making the rounds, and being re-posted, over and over and over again on md'ing forums.

While I found the read offensive and negative I suppose it's better than the articles that stir up waves of neophyte slobs who talk silly and make moon craters getting us locked out of public lands.

I think the one thing that new detector is need to realize is the truth of the hobby. Although there is a chance of finding a long lost hoard, the journey may not be as gold lined and diamond studded at the detector shows make it seem.
You will dig trash. Lot and lots of trash. Even as a seasoned detectorist with the best detector with all the bells and whistles. If you want the good stuff you have to dig the trash. By passing up on iffy signals you may just pass up on the find you've been wanting.
If you go I to the hobby knowing full well that it's not all rings, diamonds and civil war relics, it will be a fun hobby.

The guys at work still seem to think that I'm either nuts or that I must be rich, depending on how much they've talked to me about it lol.

I could care less is others want to get into it. The less in my area the better I guess. But I would like to hunt with others a couple times to try that.
