There are one heck of a lot of benefits a Medal of Honor recipient gets that he has been cheated out of. I think his kids would have had a free ride at any Military Academy too. Darned shame.
I met a MOH winner in Memphis Tennessee, when I was going to Jet Mechanics school, it the Marines. I never really knew him as he was a bit of a loner.
He was a bit of a hell raiser too that they had a hard time controlling. He would go out and get drunk, come in after the bars closed and raise hell at the gate with the MP's, just for the hell of it. He got away with murder, as I remember it but was only a private. He had been busted numerous times I guess. I never saw him again
Those MOH winners are special people. I think many are normal people that just have something in them that makes the special come out.
