I think this is silver?

I found this tonight at a park. It was about 6" deep and gave me a digital readout of a silver quarter. It doesn't have any stamps or markings on it but I think it is silver.
 
looks like silver, most is marked now days thou. It could be nickle plated brass. Silver has a tendency to oxidize black, nickle plate gives off a slightly copper tent when cleaned.

Looks like silver, and the mark could be on a piece that is missing - maybe it got hit by the mower?
 
OH YEAH i would definitely say that's silver. i found this with no marking and its definitely silver!

Some overseas jewelry be it gold or silver is not marked. Looking at the picture see an imperfection or two that makes me feel its plated but of course only your jeweler would know for sure..
