All started detecting in or around 1969. Hey Monte my favorite Tesoro was the Inca! How about that! I bet between all of us a thousand detectors have been tested! How time flies! Regards

that's when the 1st man walked on the moon

I was 4 remember watching it and was dreaming about being in the stars now the best I got is scratching round in the dirt granted it maybe star dust but its still here on earth oh well that will have to do.

no sure I even knew what a metal detector was but have a feeling you old fellas might have a few stories for me.

I remember using a Relco and Garrett BFO's back in the day. I am a young man of 73!
Yupper back in '69 Relco with visions of cache and treasures buried by an old abandoned 1890's homestead.
Then to a Jetco and finally a Detex Tiny Tex funded thru my paper route. Then started finding colorful 1890's bottles on the side of a creekbank, not far away was a
rusting car from the early 1900's kind of looked like a PT Cruiser with wooden spoke wheels. I always wanted to somehow get that car out to keep, too bad never did, it was too far back in the woods surrounded
by 40 year old trees........that spot no longer exists as it was, as of around 1990. All built up with homes etc. I can still see it in my mind.

I cut way back on buying and trying detectors. Trying to enjoy the 3 VLF's, I have on hand and not worry about having the latest and greatest that many times doesn't live up to the hype.
My Pi seems to cover my beep and dig needs.

There's a really nice Tesoro Tigershark sitting here, just back from Tesoro, my friend wants me to sell it for him. Thinking pretty hard, I should own it...LOL
Maybe his Sunspot scoop as well................hmmmm. Sure hate having GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). Guess there really is no cure.

Frank your just a "Pup" :usaa:

Sorry no, that's a newer version. I had a Relco Coin ranger, I can say could be nicknamed Drift-o-Matic. I don't have fond memories of it.

Here's me in '77 with my first detector--a Compass Yukon Nugget. To be that young (and thin) again, eh?

kool pic , and yes don't seem to be able to get back to what I looked like in my mid 20's even 30's would be fine the joys of getting older hey.

That's hilarious. I had forgotten about drift. It was so annoying on those old TR units.

I got a Jetco Treasure Hawk for Christmas in 1967. It's still at my parents house today. By today's standards, it's a joke, and I don't think it compared favorably to others when it was new. I spent every waking hour the next summer using it all over the county, including Manassas Battlefield, Prince William Forest Park, and Quantico. No one seemed to care at that time, and I didn't know any better. I made some really good finds with it, but dug a whole lot more trash than treasure. Would have loved to had my Vaquero back then.

Glad that didn't discourage me, wish I had my age 13 metabolism and endurance again. Hunted 8 hours a day winter and summer. You guys have some years on me for sure

Love the posts
