I think my Outlaw is sick :(

A few days ago while hunting with my Outlaw it acted odd a few times. When switching from all metal to discriminate it would stay in all metal and I'd have to flip the switch again to get it in discrimination mode. The battery had a lot of hours on it so I thought it was the problem. This morning I took the Outlaw hunting with a new battery but the problem was worse. Now it's also sometimes staying in all metal when I use the retune button. It did this a bunch of times in the first 30 to 45 minutes then it was normal for about 45 minutes then it started doing it again. Anybody else had this problem?

Same issue?

Mine has only done that with a low battery. if its not ground balanced right and it gets in no motion it can sound like what you said ,

Yep, sure seems to be.

Mine is giving a threshold sound while in discrimination mode. I've had it since March and it never did this until recently.

Not had this the little time I've had mine. Would like to know why some have had this happen. Not seen all the info on the when, whys, and the fix.

ouch. this is looking like a trend with the Retune button on the Outlaw. It would be useful to see if certain serial numbered machines are having these issues. Maybe it was a bad day at the factory the Outlaws they cranked out during that shift were faulty. Tesoro could do a recall on that batch and fix 'em up.

That's what I was thinking. Bad box of parts that day maybe? Or some one had a bad day. I did a lot of reading before getting the outlaw and this seems to be hit and miss with them. I'd still get the outlaw, if happens to go bad I will just send it back, no big deal.

Even though my Outlaw seems to be acting up and may need a trip to AZ for repairs, I don't regret the purchase at all. It's a fantastic machine and I love it's performance. Prior to last week I've had zero problems with it. I know Tesoro will make it right. I've got an Eldorado, which is another great machine, to use while the Outlaw is gone so everything will be OK. :)

Matt, Tesoro will take care of you. I am glad you didn't pass judgement on them just because your detector had a problem. All manufacturers can put out a bad one. It's how they take care of the problem that separates the good ones from the bad ones. I can't help but wonder if the switch is getting dirt in it and sticking. If so they may need a more environmentally sealed switch.

Give it an ASPIRIN and call me in the morning... KEN

Probably that new fangeled push button switch they are using.................

My Outlaw is headed to the doctor. I spoke to Rusty on the phone about how its been acting. He said they had seen this problem before and that of all the Outlaws sold, you can count on two hands the number that have had this problem. It's most likely a faulty retune button. I sent it in yesterday. Hopefully it'll be back soon, I already miss it!

I got the Outlaw back today. It was gone 11 days. I didn't expect it back this quick! They replaced the retune button. Hopefully this rain will quit and I can do some hunting over the holiday weekend.

Figured as much. Easy fix.

Weather sucks here now too, my new coil came in and snow came with it. Brrr. Did get out in the back yard with it, doing good till the neighbors heater came on emi emf put an end to that little test. Love the sound of spark ignition and the buzz of AC motors at 20 feet.
One thing about the enter net, you can have 6 bad out of 1000 of anything and your going to hear about the 6 and that's what ever one takes about.
Happy holidays, good hunting.

Hi Oldbuttplate, could you describe the Detector's behavior when it detected emi?

thanks

Oldbuttplate you got that 100% right.

You can bend over backwards doing the right thing, but some people will waste time talking about the one thing you messed up, even if you made it right.

With just high voltage power lines the threshold volume pulsates in AM not bad at first, when I get under the line I can't do anything with it at all. At that point in discrimination mod it will not pick up anything. The neighbors furnace just overloads every thing including the audio Circuit, sounds like and old car with bad plug wires. This is with the big coil. All this is not new I have had several detectors in the past that would do it when I put big coils on. Just have go to a smaller coil and all is well.
Threshold volume not stable.
Ground balance very hard to set.
Difficulty picking up anything in discriminate.
All this and more can come from EMI EMF.
I hope this helps.

Thanks Oldbuttplate,

My first time using my Golden, I was hunting a park, I was ready to leave, when I decided to check one last area. I was approximately 60' from an Apt. complex with all UG utilities, when my Golden started chattering nonstop. I turned it off, then back on, and it still was chattering the same. I left and returned about a week later, I hunted the same area, hoping to investigate and determine the cause. I am still a little stumped as what happened, but the good news is I have not had this problem since.

Thanks
