I think I sold him on an Excal or scared him away?

Buried Crap NJ

Hit the beach 1/31/10 for low tide. Saw one guy working north to south. I started at the water line and worked north. Got a signal right away, toy car. Worked the wet sand loose S pattern for 1/2 mile not a single target. Saw the other guy dug just one target in that same 1/2 mile. I stopped and looked around, I saw the beach was very tapered down to the water, for as far as I could see. There were about 6 of us on the beach by this time. I spotted a single little cut way up high, about 10 feet long otherwise the beach was smooth. I worked my way up and dug a deep quarter then a dime and then a buffalo nickel in a couple of minutes. I worked this area for the next hour digging about 40 coins. Talk with another guy and he hunted along with me and dug some coins also. I was digging a target and this old timer comes up on me and asked how I was doing. I said I was doing pretty good. ( it looked like a mine field around me) then sarcastically he says whats you doing there digging for Blacks beard treasure. Noting that I had a 15 in hole. I said no just a quarter.
I dug the third scoop in and dumped out the quarter. His eye popped out of his head. He was using a Whites DF? As I put my coil down I got another signal, to which I said here's another target. I pinpointed it said it was a dime and two scoops later I had a silver dime. I told him work slow and this whole area is a target rich. I started hunting again and got another target he came running over and asked to check it out. I pointed it out and he check and got nothing. He changed several setting and nothing. I told him it was quarter and on the third scoop at 18 inches out it came. I tried to explain that he was using a land detector on the beach. He just got mad at me. I walked about 10 steps and dug a half dollar and he just looked at me and walked off the beach. I stopped to talk to the other guys hunting and they saw me digging way up high on the beach and they never left the water for 3 hrs they only dug a couple of coins. I only have about 60 hrs with the Excal but I have 30 plus years hunting.I use to use a 1280X.
I sure hope that guy went home to buy a new detector.steve

If he didn't go home to buy a new detector Steve, it's his loss.
Just watching you dig as many coins as you did and not
be able to hear them with his machine......well, he needs to buy
a good machine that was made for beach and water hunting.
Congrats on all the coins you found... Gold Nuggets :wiggle:
