I think I found my stolen Excalibur...

And it seems in 3 hours someone on fee-bay will be the proud owner of my machine. I have been speaking with the detectives handling my case for a week now and it seems they could care less in helping me recover my machine. I am not willing to buy it back considering it was stolen from me in the first place but it truly sickens me that the police can't/won't recover it for me. I have also contacted fee-bay the past few days and have heard nothing back. At this point, it seems that someone is buying my stolen $1500 machine for just over $700. It just kills me that I always pay my taxes on time, and the one time I ask for help the police tells me they have better things going on. Sad, but I guess it is what it is.... HH -Marc

Hi Marc,

I remember your situation and I am very sad that the police will not help. There is something seriously wrong with law enforcement when they do not give two poops about someone's stolen property.

If you are certain that it is yours I would bid to win it. At least that will give you a bit of time to go though the legal hoops and hopefully get it back. That should also give you access to the contact information and address for the seller without having to pry it from Ebay.

Thats a very good idea zof.... If it was mine I would do that, then call the cops and hopefully you would find one who will help........

And maybe they live close enough to you you could arrange pick up........

I hate friggin thieves.......

Only partially right..... If you are CERTAIN IT IS YOURS Bid and win and then when U have the contact info buy a plane/bus ticket and go for a visit

Don't forget the seller may not be the thief, and may not have any knowledge that the detector had been stolen.

How do you know it's yours, is there anything special that stands out about the machine? Also PM me the item number if you don't mind. Thanks

According to statement made on e bay he said he bought it from a guy who as moving therefore he knew who he bought it from (which is also a pretty common cop out) Since the seller lives in FL and so does Mark I would bid to get it and then arrnge for a person to Also you don't buy a detector that you know nothing about (unless you get it VERY CHEAP) and then you have a pretty good idea it is hot and in that case receiving stolen property should not be too difficult for the cops to prove even down here in FL .......ret Mass state police:clapping:

If the crime crosses state lines - it's and FBI case - call them to see what they can do about it.

Thanks for all the responses. Sadly the police said there is no way to get the money back if I were to buy it from ebay. They said it would basically getting it back, at my expense, which would be cheaper than buying a new one. MAKES ME SICK. I know its mine because I contacted the seller, got the serial #, and then he refused to get in touch with me after that. He knows its mine, I know its mine, and apparently there is NOTHING I can do about it other than to watch someone else take possession of it. If I buy it, yes, I can get his address, but getting that info will cost me about $800 at this point and supporting a possible thief, although I suspect he didn't personally steal it. I guess there is nothing else I can do, other than watch my property, that I worked for, be sold by a criminal, in front of the eyes of the law. It's a sad world we live in but and it's especially sad that something this clear can't be resolved because the police is too busy with rape and murder cases these days.....

Isnt there a way to ask a question about the detector that EVERYONE can read? Id have to say something to let everyone know this is a stolen item.... id bust his chops. Also have you asked to talk to the detectives BOSS.... depty chief or the chief himself? Sounds like they either dont feel they can obtain any kind of warrants or It would cost them to much money to persue the issue. Its a shame that it has to be one of the big 5 crimes or generate money for the department for them to waste their time.

What ever happened to "dealing in Stolen property" with the serial#,and a police report, what else do they want/???...

After filing police report with serial #.Obtain the address of thief from seller(probably the same). Look them up and make a citizens arrest, hopefully he will resist. Take $ 800 worth of a**.

I certainly feel for you. I had the same experience with the police in my state. I had a space at an antique mall some years ago & a professional thief took the glass doors off a locked case & stole about $4,000 in rings. They refused to take finger prints & just took the report. Another time I reported a stolen light fixture & an identifying mark on it which was again stolen at the same antique mall. I found my stolen fixture at another anyique mall 40 miles away & managed to get it back, but when I reported it to the police, they were actually rude & totally worthless. If you have registered your warranty with Minelab, can't you have that checked against the fee-bay detector? They shouldn't want to deal in stolen merchandise. If you know for a fact that it is yours, threaten to post your situation on facebook & see if that has any effect. Good luck!~

This post brings up a good point.

Does car insurance cover stolen metal detectors? Can you get coverage for theft of a metal detector? Will they pay replacement costs if they do insure?

If I were in your situation I would contact everyone I could and make the biggest fuss possible. I'd contact the media regarding the response from the police. I would contact pay-pal if ebay hasn't responded. That ebay didn't do anything says a lot about them, and it isn't good.

Mark, do you have home owners insurance ?. Some insurance companies say go buy another one and present the sales slip to them, and they will reimburse you for the Excal. Just my 2 cents. Good luck and GH, Don
