can anyone tell? it's pretty worn out, the 3rd photo shows how thin it is compared to a regular penny (it's the one on my 2nd finger) I know it is not worth anything but if it is a 1945 or 46 then it is the oldest coin I have found. These are the best photos I could get.
thats a rough looking one isnt it try cleaning it up and see if you can see a date there are plenty of suggestions on how to clean older coins. check them out..if you decide to clean it repost it. id like to see it again. thanks.. hh
It's a wheatie for sure..after cleaning a coin, I shine it with Jeweler's rouge..the shine often will bring out the date a little clearer...I use the black colored rouge chalk for this purpose...You can buy jeweler's rouge on the internet...I use it also to clean my gold and silver..does a nice job.
Yes, wheaties are always nice to find. Besides being at least fifty years old, the best thing is they are a real good age indicator of a hunting site. Wheats are well withing the silver age range, and finding a few means there is a good possibility of coming up with a silver dime or quarter....or lots of other good things if you use a lot of patience. One lone wheat could pop up most anywhere but if you find two or three in the same area, thats a GOOD SIGN!
I tried Olive oil for some of my coins and after 3 weeks there still oily although I probably left them soak to long. The best way I've found to clean my Wheaties is is a little peroxide and hot water you can softly brush off the dirt and repeat the process reheated as well each time. it took me about 6 times to see the date on one of mine but it usually is very effective and the quickest way. A lot of the guys on the forum suggest this method. Grant
