Went up to my moms for Sunday dinner and I just had to swing the minelab. I found several shotgun brass, and my last signal was a 12-05 solid at 7in. It has guild all over it. The leaves are shiny gold. There are small silver colored loops above the leaves. The top has small 5 petal flowers that are painted blue. The home place dates from 1900 to 1930. The shotgun primers date 1890 till 1920. Not sure what it is or if it is real gold... But the 12-05 makes me wonder. If anybody has seen one like this or know what it is, let me know. Thanks GH

Cool find! Does it have a "weightiness" to it? The numbers are right for gold but then a lot of metals can come in @ those #'s.... any stamps on it or anything else that may identify it? Wish I could help... a jeweler perhaps could take a look and tell...

It seems heavy for its size. I'm going to try and find a jeweler that can clean and test it... Couldn find any marks. It looks like the top might have been able to come off at one time but it is smashed on one side.. ???? Anyway my daughter was stoked that Her and daddy found jewelry... Might have to get her an Ace 250 soon..

I found one just like it this weekend.

The U.M.C CO NEW CLUB brass that is.)

I don't know about the other thing, it looks pretty cool though. If it were gold I don't think it would tarnish like that would it?

Let us know what you find out GH. Thanks for the pictures.

Nice Finds! interested to find out if its gold!

Gday,

I hope it is gold for you

But,,,we have a saying downunder
"if you think it might be gold it probably isn't - If you know its gold it is "
ie. if it looks like it could be gold chances are not good...if you know straight away it most likely is.

I found a 100 year old ring and with a simple soapy water wash it came up beautifully
However, I have seen a gold ring found in saly water with green on it ...that green stuff cleaned off ok.
Good luck

If sivler or copper is mixed in with the gold for jewelry it can turn colors in the elements. Mostly it can be cleaned if its gold buy sometimes NOT very well.
