I suspect some of you newbies ( New Detector owners) are trying to figure out

The Detector you got for Christmas. About now a lot of you are questioning why you even wanted a detector.. RIGHT ??

Read the book...read the book again.. Then get on here and ask questions..lots of questions.

Remember most manuals say "Do Not Test Inside"... so much for that ..you turned it on and it went crazy didn't it ??

If you just have to..turn the sense way down to 1 to 5 only and swipe a few coins past the coil..on the bottom side..not the top side.. Practice pinpointing a little and get the feel of the machine.

As soon as possible take it outside and test it..away from metal...

Relax and learn the machine..it's not half as bad as your thinking it is right now. In fact it's most likely a good detector..with a "Bad" ( new) operator..

Practice and practice some more... you will get the hang of it.. You will learn to love it..

PS.............. Don't give up and sit it in a closet.... It is a fun Hobby.

Elton very excellent advice and thanks for giving some encouragement to those new to our hobby...Markmac

I recently took a friend metal detecting. He said several years ago he and a friend thought they would get into metal detecting. They found nothing but junk, junk, and more junk. They both sold their detectors. After going with me a couple of times and me showing him about detecting. Now he is really interested in detecting again.. He has found many coins and one junk ring. A little push in the right direction can pay off.....Jack

I think a big one too is dont let people you run into out there discourage you. Clubs are good.... but sometimes you are just as well off finding a person with experience willing to help... especially if they are using or have used your detector. There are a lot of patient and knowledgeable people in this hobby in it for the right reason. This can be a great hobby with a lot of enjoyment, exercise, and opportunities to pay it forward.
