I sure worked hard for this IH...

I spent an hour at the local park grid hunting a small area. The park isn't that old but the ground has a lot of history. In the earlier 1800's it was the site of settler's meets and later was a fairgrounds with a horse track. Nothing old is shallow in this place, I've dug 7in beavertails. I only dug 3 targets the hour I spent hunting, the first was a smashed .22 casing, the second was a .32 rimfire casing and the last find was this IH penny. The photo doesn't do it justice, all the detail on it is very sharp. The penny was only about 6in deep but it was on edge.

One thing I've done on my E-Trac setup is lower the volume gain. At the pre-set of 26 I have trouble telling deeper targets and have to constantly look at the depth meter. I lowered the volume gain to 20 and it is much easier for me to tell the deeper targets now. Since fatties sound like square tabs and later IH's ID like a zinc penny it nice just to have to listen to the tones and not check the depth meter every time. I generally try and only dig targets at this site that are over 2/3rds of the way down the depth meter or more.
