I still live in the south and we get breaks from the frozen ground.

Yep, I'm 20 miles south of the Mason Dixon line.
We are having a reprieve from the cold. It's California weather today. It didn't get over 50 F. Lots of rain yesterday and last night. It did a good job on melting most of the snow.
Spent most of the day working on the special Olympic's float for the Christmas parade. I took an one hour break and went MD'ing. It was so nice playing in the oozing, squishy mud. I found a few clad, 1955 wheat, gold plated ear ring, a gospel coin and a ring.

I am not sure what the metal is. Any ideas?

While we were making the float, the owner of the house told me about silver coins found on the property. There was a 4" pipe support in the garage that had a vertical slice in it. Everyday when the guy that lived there came home from work, he would put his change in that slice. He died in the mid 60's. The desist guys wife sold the house to him. But before she sold the house to him, she got a support to hold up the beam. They took that pipe and emptied the coins out. He said that guys wife got over $20,0000 worth of silver out of that pipe.

Tip of the week!!
LOOK FOR VERTICAL OR HORIZONTAL SLICES IN ANYTHING.

My wife told me about a guy she used to work with who bought an older house in New Orleans sevearl years back. They were pulling sheetrock off the interior walls and noticed that the older wood boards under the sheetrock had slots cut into them. Curiosity let them to pull some of the boards, and scads of silver coins poured right out of the wall. When all was said and done there was over $100,000 worth of silver that had been simply stored up inside the walls. He had bought this house along with one or two others in a little group and paid $60,000 for all three, but only the one had the money in the walls. Not too shabby, so yeah, keep an eye out for unusual slots and cuts in anything that might be hollow.

Glad you were able get out for a bit. Looks like you did well! Interesting story about the silver in the post too.

Here's to hoping the weather holds out :beers:

The mark STER is for Sterling silver. .925 is also a sterling mark. I couldn't find the makers mark R in my book. Great ring john.
