I still like my Silver uMax best.

I must say that I have found more items with my Silver, and am more pleased with it than the Cib. Nothing against the Cib, but I think the Silver is better for me. I think I get at least as good depth, maybe better. And I tend to dig less trash with the Silver(and more good stuff). Maybe because I have "bonded" with the Silver more. I have tried both machines enough to form a final opinion. But, that's just me. I know others may not agree.

Hello Nut,

I've been using my Pantera quite a bit more than my old Silver Sabre lately...

and because I've read so much about where, across the spectrum, gold rings are found, I've been digging SO MUCH trash!

I think more, and more of a visual ID meter, every time I pull up another bit of foil, but am constantly reminded each one COULD be a ladies ring with stone!

ALL reports on the Silver uMax are glowing!

I would like to try the uMax format next...

About 15 years ago I knew a father and son that detected together every weekend when the weather allowed. The father was in his 70's and started detecting with the old BFO detectors in the late 1960's. The son began detecting in the early 1990's with a new Garrett CX II, and bought his father one just like it. The father tried the CX II a few times and went back to his early VLF/TR Garrett. The son couldn't understand how his dad could find way more coins, especially silver coins, with the old technology Garrett than he could with his latest technology CX II when they hunted the same places at the same time. The answer was simple, his father had confidence in the old VLF/TR Garrett, no confidence in the new CX II, and the result was a postive attitude that resulted in the finds he made. All of us are pretty much the same as the father. We'll almost always do better with a detector we have confidence in even if it isn't the latest, greatest and deepest. Case in point, look how well Tabdog is doing with his Compadre:).

If you like your Silver

Good points. I have years of history with White's machines with visual I.D. meters. Liked them all. Then, when I got my Silver, I though "wow, look what I been missing". Found alot of great CW relics in a "virgin" camp. As I have mentioned in other posts, bad arthritis gives me problems, sometimes. I've ordered a new White's MXT. On good days I will use the White's. When my bones ache, I'll use the Silver. I DO wish Tesoro made more of a selection of machines with visual reference. In my opinion, they make too many models without, and not enough with. For me, a visual meter comes in handy for identifying big iron, like farm scrap and such. Big iron will usually produce very good audio, but the meters are a blessing. But hey, I REALLY enjoy the Silver, even though it doesn't have a meter.
