It's sad to sit here and not be able to get out because of the heat. I hear bill and others talk about can't get out because it's rainy or cold lol.I would trade in a heartbeat. Ever since i had a heart attack and had stints put in i just can't deal with high humidty and heat. Both are everyday deals here in texas though.
At least I get to feel a part of detecting by watching you guys post everyday. We almost have our first show ready and you guys that haven't seen it will get to see the first garrett detector Charles Garrett ever made. A 1964 beauty.I'm excited about the show and we have some very talented camera men hired that does work for PBS and other networks,so quality should be excellent. Keep up the good posts so I can see what I'm missing down here in Hell Texas. I think our low was 79 lol that's probably Uncle Willy's high for the day. My newly designed website has a voice chatroom where I hope to have guest speakers come talk to us and show us pictures of treasure hunts from around the world. Hope you get a chance to check it all out.

I loved Texas but not the heat and humidity there. I was there 25 years but have ended up in the Spokane, Washington area .. and I'm proud to say that we had snow in the mountains two days ago, yes even in June... lol! Today our high is lower than your low .. 72

I'm really sorry to hear you had to get rid of your detectors.Your weather sounds like heaven.Hopefully you hang around the forum. Lot of good people here.

Our Carolina heat finally broke back down to 90 w/ a lot less humidity. If I could ship it toward texas I would at no cost.Maybe you could find some well lit parks or other areas and get in some night fishing. I will say a little weather prayer for you.

Dang! I hadn't thought about lighting. I bet all the parks and schools have lights outside Thanks for the comment.:beers:

I went out today (Northeast Mississippi) because we had some rain last night and it "cooled down". It was only about 90 degrees, but the humidity was as bad as it could possibly be. I started sweating on the drive to my spot, kept it up for the 3 hours of hunting, and didn't stop until I got home to the air conditioning and showered. I had to refill my water bottle 4 times just to be ABLE to sweat. I usually just stop going out once July comes around and don't start back up until sometime in September.
I would just about kill to have decent weather. I'm sure as heck not gonna retire here, it'll be northwards. I not only want better weather, but I want to get out of the second poorest state in the Union. That statistic really shows most of the places I detect, too. I have to hit private schools just to find quarters usually, and I'm not joking. Pennies we have, but when it comes to a dime or a quarter it's really sorry. Thankfully I have one spot that's been paying out in old coins (8 wheats today) or I'd probably just hang the detector up. Just venting.

Steve

I know what you mean bro. Not gonna be doing much detecting till fall myself. This texas weather will kill an old guy for real. Wonder if Uncle Willy would adopt us and move usto portland?

I live about thirty miles from Uncle Willie and can tell you what kind of weather we both are having today.
Blue sky with fluffy clouds here and there. Wind out of the west running about fifteen to twenty miles an hour.
I have two outside themometers.....the one in the sun says 64 degrees (farenheight) and the one in the shade is reading 62.
I am taking my bride to the movies in a few minutes and while I am going sockless with sandels on I am also wearing a long sleeved sweater that usually never sees the light of day untill the end of October.
Those of you enduring heat and humidity have my genuine sympathy.

Hunting at night is a lot of fun as long as you have a safe site. Your Ace 250 doesn't have a back light but I bet you Khouse has a mod to fix that. I just bought an LED headlamp that attaches to the brim of a hat that should be better than my miner's light which I found to be too heavy. When I hunt at night I let the cops know where I'll be. That way if they get a call that there is a light bouncing around in a field they know what's up. That and I hate having a gun drawn on me. Plus they can check on me. Bring a phone. Keep your eyes open.

Chris

The questions you get after dark are completely different than what you get during the day. You looking for night crawlers? A little late for yard work, isn't it?

laughing at the nightcrawlers. reminds me of lines to a country song. too hot to fish, too hot for golf, and too cold at home.

You can have this crap! Six blocks away is the Des Moines River. Flood stage plus. Broke an emergency levee this morning . Downtown Des Moines is under water. Mandatory evacuations going on as I type. The National Guard sandbagged and raised two miles of levee over two feet yesterday and did it in 24 four hours but we still lost it. Cedar Rapids, Iowa has over 25,000 homeless and no end in sight. More rain forecasted for the next 24 hours. But, at least the temps are cooler!! Still wanna trade?

No I don't want to trade and I do send my prayers to Iowans. I have been keeping up with all the flooding. We are begging for rain here in Texas but not that much. Hope you and yours are safe.
Larry

Yeah I saw Cedar Rapids on TV. The whole downtown area is under water. That's one thing I don't miss about the Midwest. I remember the horrific floods before they built the levees and the Mississippi would be miles wide and I worked as a kid sand bagging trying to save homes. I feel for those folks back there.

Been in the high forties at night here. Our summer has been lousy so far but even with a good one we don't get that brutal heat and humidity.

Bill

I expect I could handle the heat ok,but the humidity here is horrible. It's 7 am here and this is our weather conditions
Temp: 81

We are fine, thanks. The water is beginning to recede Downtown, but heavy thunderstorms are forecasted for this afternoon. Just have to hope for the best. So many have lost everything and we are praying for them.. We are lucky there is some fairly high ground between us and the water. Someday it will dry out and I'll be back to swinging the Ace. Who knows, maybe the river will leave a treasure for me to find!

From watching the homes being swept away I expect there will be lot's of stuff to find when it all settles down. No telling what all got washed out of the rivers.

I just got back from a week in Philly. You guys can have that humidity. It was a record on Mon. and Tues. I'm glad to be back in dried up CA.

I always like Texas and the people but can't handle that brutal weather, the bugs, and all the critters. All those things are wonderfully absent here.

Bill
