I saw this on another forum...Watch out for this guy.

" I just purchased a detector from a Frank Serra, he goes on this forum by Frank-s.
I made the mistake of paying with a postal money order instead of paypal and now I have no recourse.
The detector this guy sold me is both corroded and damaged, its put together with parts of other detectors, a real mishmash of crap. I asked this guy for a refund explaining to him that he lied about stuff I specifically asked about(corrosion, whether everything was working) and he told me he will not refund my money."

You can get your money back with a usps money order I've done it before. But sounds lIke you just got unlucky this time. I would make sure you report him.

One of the great things about using a Postal Money order. Report this joker and you will see how quick you get your $ back.

This didn't happen to me, I was just passing it along from another forum as a buyer beware notice from another forum member.

Dan, Where did you read this? I can't find it and would like to see just what is going on.

I also recommend in the future to simply post a link to something like what you posted, rather than copying something not known to be true by you.

It's on the feedback forum on the treasure depot, if it's not true then the guy who posted it is lying. I posted it as a headsup and a warning to buyers and sellers as to what was posted on that forum. I figured if I post a link to another forum it would have been deleted. Feel free to delete this thread if it's inappropriate. Here's the link .. ( Please contact Dan for that information )

From what I read, the detector Frank sold detected fine, and the only thing not working was the battery check. Now, for the record, the battery check has nothing to do with whether the detector detected or not. As for put together with parts from other detectors, well, what I can tell that only refers to a coil that works and that is common.

Personally, I usually don't check batteries with a battery check on any of my detectors either.

Now, I am not trying to defend Frank, but he is 75 years old and not a con artist in my opinion. I would like to read just what he said about the detector when he sold it, though and just what he sold it for. Typically, a "pretty X5 goes for around $500 +/- $50 or so.

I also believe a person buying a used detector should ask all the questions necessary and not expect anyone selling a detector to have all the answers. If you want a pretty "new" detector at a used price, then say so. Don't get mad if you don't get a closet queen at a well used detector price.

I have over a hundred older detectors and almost none of them are "like new" Instead, most are old, may have pots the act up some of the time or have dirty switches, but most work and will detect basically like they should except for pots or switches acting up once in a while. I use my detectors and they get well used. Also, for fun I fix detectors, most of which don't work when I start but do when I finish. In other words, I have seen it all or almost all.

One more thing, I find most detectors that fail do so from lack of use and have found "closet queens" to be quite likely to fail from lack of use.
