Been hunting since 2002, always probing with a screwdriver (for clad) Neverthought the Garrett probe would be worth the cost.
My brother a newbe since last yr. Made me use his for a hr. Well I got hooked! So I got one. Forgot to take it one day and felt a little naked without it. Proves an old Dog can always learn something new.

I use a thin phillips screwdriver that is about 8 inches long. What does the brass one from Garrett do that the screwdriver does not do? Just wanting to know if it is worth the investment.

Are you talking about the screwdriver like probe, or the Garrett PP? I use a thin shaft screwdriver that used to be a flat tip for nearly everything I dig.

I wish the probe had a round point instead of the sharp point, I have scratched some coins. None of them were valuable, thank goodness. I need to take a file and work on it a little, but my memory don't work sometimes.

I think that the Brass one won't scratch the silver coins. I went to the welding shop and got a piece of 1/4" brazing rod and cut it to the length that I wanted and put a handle on it and sharpened it. Cost was about $3.50 for the rod and I can make 2 or 3 more with it.
