I received this penny back in change is it real???

It looks like it has been plated with titanium oxide to me. I have a couple of old pieces that had been plated with titanium oxide by a friend in the aerospace industry and that is what color they are.
 
See where it goes....Might be fun to watch the bidders...LOL
 
I worked in gold smelting and refining for many years, and sometimes we would drop one of the older (pre-1980's) bronze pennies into the pregnant solution. After about half an hour it would be bright, shiny and beautifully gold-plated. I used them a few times as a joke to see people's reactions, and have been offered enormous sums occasionally, but I never had the heart to rip off someone like that. Besides, I have no doubt that it was highly illegal.
