I got back from my hunt this morning and was preparing to head in to work when I got a call from the General Manager of the hotel next door to me. We share a private beach and I had offered to return some of the rings I had found there if he could help me locate the original owners from his guest registry. Naturally I was assuming that his call was to inform me that he had located one of the guests who had lost one of the engraved rings I had mentioned to him. (No, I don't return unengraved rings unless I can be sure they are going to the proper owner)
The GM hadn't found any matches to my finds but he wanted me to come over and try to find a wedding band that a guest had lost 2 months earlier on the lawn behind her suite. "Okay, no problem but I have to get to work so I'll be right over." The lawn was Bermuda grass which really swallows up objects and it was full of targets but I knew this one would be on the surface but hidden by the grass. I had to drop the sensitivity way back but I found it in less than 10 minutes.
Man, was the GM ever happy, you would think I had found his wife's ring. Apparently, the lady who lost it was really upset and he knew she would be ecstatic to get it back. I now have privleges to access any beach on the property and a weekend get away, free of charge anytime I want. These cottages go for $500 to $1,400 per night so that's pretty sweet but I am really happy about the hunting privledges as I can't get to most of the other beaches on the property except by boat.
A skinny gold band with british hallmarks 14k, they must have got married young and poor because they are now spending 10 times the value of the ring per night on lodging

That's the good deed for the day for this boy scout.
