I read here the coil is always in ALL METAL mode

even when you are using DISC mode. Only the audio circuit is affected when you switch to DISC mode, but the coil always stays in ALL METAL mode. I use ALL METAL mode when targets are far apart because it covers a much wider path under the coil.
