I purchased a WOT coil in the early 2000's. Do you think that . . .

I purchased a WOT coil around 2003 for the Explorer. Do you think that the most recent manufactured WOT coil is better or just as good as what I have?
I'd like to try mine on the E-trac.

I have had both at one time and saw no difference.
Logic says the old style without the additional cross braces should be a bit lighter but I never weighed them.
Heavy is still heavy

The old version of the 15" coil was a ripper. the newer design improves the strength of the coil to minimize any flex which may occur (MAY)... the internal windings remain the same between models.

new coil is approx 750gms and the old one is about the same weight. it had a larger area to pour epoxy in so that is what takes up the main weight of the coil.

How did you find the old version WOT on the detector?

I'm not sure what you mean "was a ripper." Do you mean it was really a hot, great coil?

You asked: "How did you find the old version WOT on the detector?"
I think I understand your question. I think you are not asking how I found the old WOT to purchase in the first place but how I found the WOT to work on the detector?
I find the WOT to be VERY good in open field detecting where weeds are not an issue. I recently purchased a new E-trac and so will have to try it out on that. I hope to give the WOT a spin on the E-trac this weekend.

The Ultimate coil weighs a little over a pound. The WOT weights about 1 pound 6 ounces. I can usually hunt about 1 to 2 hours with either coil.
I also have a bungee to support the detector with heavier coils. It's a little strange swinging the coil with a bungee support though.

Sorry mate - must be the Aussie in me - Ripper means its a good thing...:)

Good luck swinging out there!

Let us know how you go with the ETrac with an older WOT coil. I have a few coils including the older WOT coil gathering dust and have been thinking of getting an E-Trac or Safari to replace my aged Explorer 2.
