I own a CZ5 & CZ6...any reason to buy a CZ7a?

I've had a CZ5 for many years as well as a 1260X. Recently I picked up a CZ6 for a deal I couldn't pass up. Now I have an opportunity to snag a CZ7a for a real bargain. Before my wife kills me for giving into my CZ fetish...is there anything to gain from the CZ7a? The physical differences are obvious, but what about the guts?

CZ7A has a superior notch system not a linear disc system but is a little slower and sens. is 2-4-6-8 not 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 which your other units have.
Remember it can't be body mounted....as far as depth depends on the tuning of the CZ in hand not the model and all are deep.

as far as the LCD display and keypad goes....is that something to worry about? Are CZ7a's known to have any issues? How are they on batteries? I just wonder if I'm being stubborn not trying some of the newer technology or manufacturers out there. Many years ago I had whites and then later a Garrett, before I got hooked on fishers. Now after a hiatus I've been bitten again, and of course the machines have changed plenty in the last 10 years.

CZ7A never really took off as they are a rod mount only and heavier than the analog CZ. Unlike the analog with takes two 9 volts they take 12 alkalines but give 80-90 hrs on a set. They replaced the CZ7 which used batteries in storage and were slow to pinpoint. CZ7A corrected these problems and never heard of any issues on this model..
Might look into the new F70 or F75 if you are looking for a faster unit which is deep with large meters and lightweight design...and excellent battery consumption...

If the CZ 7A is the pro model, The control box can come off and body mount, and it uses two 9v batteries.
I also seen a picture on Ebay of a model marked CZ 7A Quicksilver that looked identical to my CZ 7A pro, (no seperate battery compartment).

if your going to go with lcd skip to the cz 7a and go with the cz 70 pro as it is a 4 tone unit set up for old coins like the cz 3d but with notch capabilities..The 4th tone is what i like..

metalmedic,
I've got 2 CZ's right now, a 3d and a 7a. Although the 3d is my 'deep coin' machine (with the 10.5"), the 7a has a couple of neat features...
The main things I like:
The notch system lets me hunt the way I prefer. I turn on the iron and turn off the stinkin zinc. By hearing the irons low-tone, it helps me keep from adding to my 'iron nail' collection. ;)
The backlight is a nice feature, as I hunt at night frequently. The detector is balanced pretty well. (batteries in back)
The main things I dislike:
All those batteries are a bit of a pain. I use rechargeables, but still.
There's a hesitation when switching to pinpointing. Less than a second, but it's instant with the 3d.
The pinpoint button is hard to 'feel' compared to the analog CZs. You get used to it eventually, but it seems like a hassle at the time.

Either one is an awesome coin machine, capable of wearing you out digging deep targets.

Oh, and almost forgot:

One other advantage of the digital CZs, such as the CZ7a is the 3-bar battery level gauge.
I've been caught out with dying batteries with the 3D several times...not so with the 7a.

YOU can find them at ANY Hardware Supply Store!! I am NOT sure but I think they are Manufactured by a Company called COMMAND!! They come SIX or EIGHT in a Pack, and YOU PEEL the Back Piece OFF, and PRESS IT on the PINPOINT Switch!! Then YOU just GLIDE Your THUMB along the Bottom Portion of the DISPLAY Screen on the CZ, until YOU FEEL the RAISED Silicone ATTACHMENT!! YOU don't have to LOOK for the Switch, if You don't want to, because YOU can DO IT by FEEL!! Hope this HELPS, Les Robinson.
