High Folks....

A little setup:

I'm at work in "duh sewer" (warehouse) today.... and one of my route drivers hits the barn at the end of tuhday all excited... Robbie is his name... nice kid... interested in MD'ing and listens to all of my tales...

Seems as though one of his coin mechs got jammed today... he pulls it apart and finds the coin in the pics below jamming the gizzards. Looks at it and says to himself, self, I gotta show Raffee (me) this one when I get back there... this seems strange and might be worth something....

So, he brings me this here:

The coin is slightly smaller in diameter than a regular dime... the blank IS NOT clad.... there isn't any reeding around the coin... it has a slightly "silvery feel" to it (if that makes any sense  ) has that crazy "Copy" across the obv.... looks like a "1930" mint date.... the reverse says "Five Cents".... WHASSUP WIT DAT?!?! :yikes: :yikes:

Robbie asked me iffen I knew what it was... what it might be worth... (So we can take a LOOOOOOOOOONG Vacation  (My research fee  if it is worth something!!)).... is it legit... somebody "smuggle" it out of some place? is it counterfeit? Any info is appreciated....

I'm posting in a rather "straight ahead style" vs my Ghetto Style.... Robbie already suspects that I'z NUTZ!!!

I will show Robbie this post and your replies from the "sewer" on Monday....

Thanks for your help...

that it may have come from some sort of coin "TYPE" set. It's a set with one of each coin from a particular period. They went out of their way to make sure that no one would take it believing that it was legal tender. It's probably made of nickel so you won't see any clad like center. It could also be from some kids toy set that requires coins. 1930 Buffs are not rare so counterfeits would be unlikely. Good luck.

one also, he didn't get a for sure answer but was told it was probably from a kids toy game or toy money. If I remember right he was told thats why it has Copy on it and is as small as a dime.

But don't take my word for it Gaffee  check it out bud.

I have a few copy coins myself but they are very lite weight and have copy across the coin, keep looking for information on it.

Copies of pennies and dimes before. They were made as joke to the shrinking American economy. The meaning was that your money doesn't get as much any more so why not make it smaller.Maybe what you got is part of that set of coins.............just my guess but I am just a dumb Irishman.

from the sewer... he's putting the vacation stuff away  At least I got him looking for anything strange in his coin mechs.
