TAKE YOUR FREAKING TRASH WITH YOU !!!!!!! I came across 6 or 7 holes in the 3 to 4 ft. depth range on the North beach with trash thrown back into the hole AFTER YOU ALREADY HAD IT IN YOUR HANDS ! You have to be some sort of blithering idiot to do that because the next time you go there you'll be digging up the same trash OR you are a vacationer the doesn't give a crap about other hobbyist or potential cuts to swimmers on ragged chunks of aluminum you left for them to step on. In this day and age of metal detectors and parks trying to keep us from pursuing our hobby, this kind of conduct is simply unbelievable.

Now having said that, I know that I'm just yelling in the wind because I'm sure that NONE of the fine folks here would do such a thing.
But.... I had to get it off of my chest. Thanks for listening to me.

Sincerely,
therick

I feel ya. Same thing happened to me on Monday at Indian Rocks Beach. Saw about three other detectors out there and garbage lying atop the sand near some of the unfilled holes. Guess people just don't get it!

No, they just dont want to carry it!

That is why we get areas that are off limits now because others do not consider anyone else besides themselves.... :veryangry:

I feel your frustration. I've been fighting this battle for 30 years and have seen site after site after site shut down to us because of it. Frankly I'm surprised that metal detectors haven't been outlawed for civilian use. All because of a few jerks who are too lazy and stupid to give consideration for other people and the environment. It's a wonder I haven't developed an ulcer because of it, lol. Next time you see somebody like that give them a friendly reminder. Once and only once. If they give you any lip tell them you're going to call the police and try to have them removed from the beach or park or wherever you are and also advise them that they may be facing a fine as well. It's time to quit trying to be nice to some of these idiots.

Therick, I have seen this retard two weekends ago. He isnt to friendly, I was watching him digging up some thing it took him about 5 to 10 min. I was in the water an i seen him throw it back . It looked pretty large . It turned out to be a ripped up can just laying on the ground. He had wholes all over the place. He is about 5, ft. 275pn an uses a whites id. An has really thick glasses. The control box looked to big to be a pi unit. Ive seen him before at a beach on treasure island. I had picked up the can an some other stuff , When i was leaving the life guard told me thanks. An some people are just retards . Ive been on that beach an seen baby's running an playing can you imagine that being your baby that steps on the ripped up can. He only stays out a couple hrs. I will meet him again but the next time im coming out of the water. COTTON

There are "regulars" who hunt the same beaches almost every day.. WHY do they leave the zinc cents, bobbie pins, pop tops, etc. next to their holes? HOW MANY TIMES DO THEY WANT TO DIG THEM UP?????? It takes so little effort to throw it away as you leave. I have a magnet in my apron, which helps keep a lot of the junk all together to get rid of. Does anyone have an opinion on this???

I've seen this on punk down in Galveston TX. It was easy to seen where he had been. He left holes and trash everywhere he had went. I new to beach hunting but this guy had no clue. I couldn't tell if he detecting or trying to shoo off sea gulls. As much as I wanted to say something I did not dare approach this guy. You never know with people these days.

I've talked to detectorists on the beach in Bermuda where detectors were banned 5 years ago and it isn't a huge problem but we do get the odd rude tourist detectorist and the odd newbie who hasn't figured it out yet. It just makes sense to fill you holes and clean up your trash.
I was questioned by a woman just this past sunday as to what I was doing, then what I was finding? I pulled a handful of broken glass and jagged metal from my junk pocket and showed it to her. "Oh" she said "So what you're doing is actually a good thing". The public needs to be educated, diplomatically about our hobby and new detectorists have to be educated as well only more so - - - - - before they ruin the hobby for everyone.:detecting:
I remember dirt biking everywhere when I was a teenager, now most areas restrict there use to places nobody else would want to go. It could happen to us!

BDA:cool:

I guess from the posts made that we all have seen these idiots once or twice. I can't understand it either why they would throw it back into the hole?

When I see that I always assume that the moron must be from someplace else and has no intention on returning. Guys like this make it bad for everyone. And then again guys like that don't seem to join forums so we are all basically talking to ourselves....

This particular beach is a State Park and you have to have a permit to use a detector on it's beaches. You can be banned from using it at Ft. DeSoto.

WHAT I DONT UNDERSTAND IS HOW THE TRASH GETS THEIR IN THE FIRST PLACE THATS WHAT REALLY MAKES ME MAD.... NEVER HUNTED FORT DESTO YET I THOUGHT THEY DIDNT ALLOW METAL DETECTING THEIR OR IS THEIR RESTRICTIONS ? LIKE TO KNOW I LIVE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BAY, I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET OUT LATELY HOPING TO THIS WEEKEND...TALK LATER CRACKER APOLLO BCH , FL

Next time you come accross a digger like that stay close by with your detector on ,the signal from your detector will creat problem for the idiot .:ranting:

BDA right with ya, I love showing the trash that I have picked up. Course I keep the good stuff to myself.

My experience with the local detectorists is they ALWAYS leave holes and their trash behind. I've spoken to some of them and they are club members but not forum types.
Their club web sites all stress filling holes and taking trash but in reality.......they are not practicing what they preach.

I'm so glad to see so many of us, so fervent about this extremely important issue. I'm a detectorist and an old hiker from a long time back, and I can't remember the exact "little saying" they used to have, but it pretty much said something like: Whatever you bring with you into the forest TAKE IT BACK OUT WITH YOU, AND DON'T LEAVE A TRACE THAT YOU'D EVEN BEEN THERE. I think this holds true to metal detecting, but as these posts are saying, we as detectorists have one more thing to do, and just as many have said: FOR GOD'S SAKE, ONCE YOU DIG A HOLE, TAKE THE TRASH OUT WITH YOU, IN YOUR TRASH BAG, and then ALWAYS, ALWAYS, COVER UP THE HOLE. so people won't step in it, trip, or even have to look at it and complain to the ranger of the holes so we get kicked out of another area. It's the same old story, once again, a "few bad apples, can ruin the whole barrell", so amen to all the posts here to uphold this very important aspect of our wonderful hobby. Marc
