I have a Panasonic DMC TZ1. Large screen,5 meg., 4x digital 10x optical,a ton of features for all around family use.The 10x is what sold me, I can take shots of building and house details without entering a property.

Bought a Canon A530 I think it is for my daughter. Chose that one for her because it has an optical viewfinder for those times in bright light when you cannot compose a shot on the screen.

Any of the smaller name brand cameras in the $2 -$300 range, even less, offer a lot of features.Look through the site link below, you can do side by side comparisons too !
