i am a relic man but there is a lot more places to hunt coins which i have been doing lately today i seen a guy who found a bunch of wheaties and they looked great does anyone have any coin cleaning tips for different types of coins any help will greatly be appreciated

Hi jreb,

Many people use a rock tumbler to clean their modern clad coins. I would recommend you don't clean older valuable coins. I made myself an electrolysis system out of a pc power supply to clean items I dig. I've only used it on old pieces of iron like buckles and then on wheat pennies and silver jewelry. It will turn a blackened wheaty or piece of silver jewelry shiny again almost instantaneously. There are many vids on youtube on cleaning coins and jewelry.. like this one from 219erman Cleaning coins

I use a tumbler but only for modern day clad. My wheats and old coins get a got soapy bath and a very soft toothbrush, Beale.

You could search google or youtube on how to build an electrolysis setup with an old pc power supply. It works great on really crudded up wheats. As far as silver coins go... I don't touch them either. Just hot soapy water like Beale.

i use to tumble mine but some are so shot i think i need to use some silver spray paint i wonder if that would cause any problems
