I need some coil advice......

Has anyone compared the Whites 350 coil and the 3X6 shooter coil on an XLPro? Wondering about depth comparison, sensitivity and separation differences. Thanks in advance. Randy

Hi Randy,

I ran a few test comparisons between the 350 Snooper VS the 3x6" shooter using the coin @jewelry factory settings and here are a few of my findings although not scientific they were repeatable.

The 350 Snooper will give more consistent and better target ID on a zinc penny buried at 5" with coil about 1 to 2 inches off the ground, the shooter is lost on consistent ID unless almost touching the ground and still inconsistent but better and i also feel the shooter has to be swept quicker to maintain depth vs the snooper .

As far a sensitivity i use a 22 shell casing for testing which ID's as foil- small ring and again the Snooper can be raised higher before the signal is lost.

As far as target separation i feel the Snooper can be swept slower and still maintain it's inherent depth ,whereas the Shooter seems to lose depth and even shallow targets at slower speeds the Snooper will hit on.

If i'm in a high trash area and cruising for the more shallow targets i'd use the Shooter due the extra 2" length and if i'm looking for deeper targets mingled in the junk i'd opt for the Snooper.

Having said that i think the 5.3 Black Max is a 90% usage coil on most whites in trashy situations,it is a GEM in my opinion on the 6592.5Hz detectors.

These are just my opinions and i'm sure others will have their's. HH Bill

Your opinions are appreciated. I have the 350 (and 5.3) and was wondering about buying the shooter. I have to say that I like the 350 as well as any small (real small) coil I have used on any machine. It seems to get great depth and is very sensitive. I was just wondering if I was missing out on anything by not having a shooter. Doesn't sound like I need to spend more money on it now. I liked the shooter on my MXT, but didn't feel it hunted as deep as other coils. Thanks again for the information. HH Randy

Digger,

I agree with Bill on the Shooters sensitivity. As you noted they work OK on the MXT/DFX but on the lower freq Whites they are next to worthless IMHO.
