I am following your exploits on the other forum.
I also picked up an Explorer Pro in May.
I am not having the trouble you seem to be having.
Hope you get it worked out. Also report on your progress.
Thanks

Im sure part of whats happening is Im chasing/listening to too many little squeaks and chirps that are actually iron falsing and ground minerals,thinking those are the elusive deep coins. I sweep 90 degrees and make sure stuff repeats...but the process is non productive. Plus,my sites,for the most part,are not easy to hunt. the term "clean ground" isn't used much around here,theres SOMETHING EVERYWHERE. I wont lie,its tough going right now. Glad to hear at least youre doing better than me,maybe Ill catch up once it comes into focus more than it is.

I have an Explorer 2 and here's some simple advice;

1 Start with factory settings then change things like volume, threshold, contrast to your licking.

2 Next step is change the frequency channel if you have atmospheric interference, change to something that's quiet, preferably a higher frequency.

3 If too much junk, turn the sens down, even in manual-sens. You can also lift the coil just to scan the surface when changing sens back/forth is inconvenient.

4 Get a pinpointer before you get any other equipment. In any case, get used to digging shallow signals first (for a few minutes), just to get used to everything.

I find that factory settings and the stock coil are very hard to beat, I experiment with coils and settings all the time.

Thanks Magician,I'm headed in that direction. I've read very good things about the "out of the box" setup,so....it's right back to that until I get some serious time in. Here's to hoping!
