i just got a new 100 acre site to hunt used to be a old rec area from 1870 to mid 1940s had a boating lake a beach house swimming lake consesionn stand old stage and other things i lived a mile from this place for twenty five years never new it was there the guy that lives on this site knows where stuff was located its all gone now how do you go about hunting a place of this size and not miss a bunch of stuff i got a deleon that i just bought a tejon and a silver u max whats going to be the best machine for this site

any of the machines will work good...start off in all metal to locate the action areas..then start disc out a little at a time....100 acres...that will take a while...sounds like a lot a fun...good luck....

I kind of like the Tejon ... but I'd go with the detector you know best. If the guy can point out the old building locations start there and work out from those locations. If the locations are accurate and there is a lot of nails from buildings, use a small coil and work those areas thoroughly until you get away from the dense trash then go back to the standard coil. If you aren't finding a concentration of targets, work a coarse criss-cross and see if you can find target concentration, then work those areas. Map where you have been.
Good luck and have fun!

I'd start with the largest coil you have for the Tejon (cover the most ground quicker), disc out iron, and hit the hot-spots (where people congregated) 1st. Cherry-pick the best finds, and go back over things later.

I like this approach,,, first off I'd just walk around and scout as much area as possible with the MD to the ground of course. Then if no targets show up or you find something that tickles your fancy hunt there. I used to stress about starting in on place and working the entire site off square foot by square foot,,, and I usually end up covering it that well ,, but not from the start, I just do what feels good a plan will develop,,, have fun and HH
PS a friend could be of some assistance and add to the good times on a lot that big,,,,

Lol, and Have Mercy Pettit, you sure do need help !! I will need your full name , address and Ph# , and I will be there shortly!!! Yeoowee, you had best also be thinking about a water machine also for those hot summer days. Looks like you have enough info on the place already to start hammering away at it. With such likelyhood of some choice silver, I believe I would spend some time "cherry picking" with my disc.(either machine) set a bit high just to see what turns up.Check your PC Aerial Photo sites for any info they may provide. I would also head for your closest Library History/Geneaology section and see what historical records you may be able to dig up. Surely there would be something and maybe even some early pictures. Any old maps, plats and legal land descriptions could possibly give hints as to how the land was used. Probably the best thing would be to just get to it with a complete walk down/swing and begin to get a feel for the place and those particular 'hot spots" that will surely be there.Good Luck, HH,and let us know what turns up. What a Blessing you got , so cool!! Charlie

Old pictures maps etc. will tell you where the activity was...Find an old coin and scour the area in an ever widening circle...Even if hunted before has to have a lot of old coins not to mention gold jewelry in the water..Trick is to find where the activity was and your on your way...Do remember an area of this size has many dead areas so move around a lot and find a productive area
hunt it well and feel the Tejon will do the job with its depth...

Trust me if it was warm where your at and no snow, last place I would be is in front of a computer asking what to use. Grab a detector and get too swinging your on a potential gold mine of finds and your worried about what detector to use...NO FREAKING WAY...I would be sitting in front of computer. Try one then go back over it with a different detector or tell me where it is and I'll come there and detect it for you. :detecting:

Longer you wait more and more chance someone else will show up, just saying.

I'm sitting with a foot of snow on the ground and temps below o all i can do is wait till it gets better weather here i know it sucks doesn't start warming up till late march April so here i am on the form

i tell you what I'm sick of this dam weather they claim its going to get into the 40s this week but still spring is along time coming have you been Abel to get out and hunt yet

the ground now, it would be a good time in case you do not know where the lakes used to be, to keep an eye on the snow melt to see where the melt settles toward the last of the season, and maybe it would give you some idea of where the lakes and shorelines were. Just a thought. With the lakes drained , that place is a virtual gold/silver mine waiting to be worked. I didn't mention it before, but since you will be sitting at your PC until the snow melts, see if you can find and Load up the "Terra Client" site. It is an Aerial/Topo site where you can load the Topo and fade it in and out to do an "under"lay with your Aerial. Also measure and shade dark and light. High traffic areas will show lighter when you hit the right amount of shade so that may be of some help to locate different areas, and maybe even show some shorelines. Never know until you look. HH Charlie

Sounds like his research is already done. What you might do (to sweeten the deal) is loan your 2nd detector to the guy who holds the key.
