I hit 2 places today. I went to the beach to unwind. It rained a little at first.

Then it cleared up and got into the 80's.

Unwinding is great, but I needed to get some loot. So I went to a town near where I live. It has some dirt roads with homes from the 1800's on them.

I went down the road and I dug it all. Some surprising finds. The pointy thing and the turtle is copper. I think the thing on the right is a tooth I found with some trash. There are 2 brass 10 guage u.m.c.o.nitro club shells. I was surprised there were no old coins.

They should make it illegal to make those coins. I could have had a heart attack. I don't know what the coin with the square hole is.

Those coins are from China. Here is a link to ID them. Those dang foreign coins....

... A Chinese Cash coin. This particular one is from the Ch'ien Lung Dynasty (1736-1795). These coins don't have actual dates on them, but have the characters showing the ruling dynasty of the time it was minted (upper photo). The last photo shows the mint, which, in this case is the Board of Public Works mint, Peking. (I've re-oriented the photos to put them facing correctly).
These old cash coins have found their way all around the world and they made a LOT of them, so, even though you've found an 18th century coin, don't quit your day job. Common ones (like this one) are worth a couple of bucks.
Neat find, though! I found one just like it here in South Australia about 6 months ago.
Cheers!

They should make it illegal to make those coins.

I know you said this casually, John, only in passing. But it's dangerous stuff to be planting in your head.... Be Careful What You Ask For.

Wanting your government to pass more laws, i.e., to make "stuff" illegal as it were, is like asking for the gun to shoot your own foot. The job of government is to administer on behalf of it's people, not to create controls making it easier to handcuff them.

There are laws in place about minting and reproducing coin and currency already. Thats the reason why they could make that particular token in the first place; it adheres to those laws.

Sorry about this tirade, John. But, everytime I hear someone say, "They oughta pass a law..." I cringe.

By the way, nice digs.

Nice selection of finds, John. Really like the token.

From your photos, my choice is the country road; but that's just me. I like the solitude, good finds or not.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

when great minds come together. I thought it was a middle eastern coin. Duh? That is the first coin I have ever seen like that.
It is ironic that I found a " 1700's silver dollar" that turned out to be a fake. What a let down. I then go a little farther down the road and find a 1700 Chinese coin. Those coins are common in certain places like California, but I don't think they are common here in FL. When I lived in Detroit, Canadian coins were so common we spend them like American money, with no problem. Fl. is way different. I have only found 2 Canadian coins for the year. Now, my oldest coin for the year is 1700's Chinese coin. Great way to end the year.
The town I found the coin in has many more dirt roads. I thought they provided some unusual finds. The pointy thing has interesting designs on it and I have no idea what you do with a copper turtle. I may not be able to go into people's yard's, but the dirt roads are mine. The people are friendly and everyone on the road came out and talk to me nicely. Maybe some doors will open up for me there.

I APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP EVERYONE HAS GIVEN ME!

That is a great place to hunt. We have some of those roads here, in the ritzy section of towm; horsepeople. But Im gonna give it a go, anyway

I like the pointy thing too and it is reminiscent of a lamp pull. Good digging, John.
