I need help identifying two coins!!!

Hey guys! I'm new to this whole metal detecting thing so maybe this is an elementary question. Anyway, I found these two foreign (I think) coins in our drive way. The first one is from Mexico It says, -M 1971-. The second one is from Puerto Rico, it says -1944-. Does any one know any thing about these? Are they silver? do they have any numismatic value? Do you need more information?
Thanks in advance!
Sebastian

P.S. Sorry, the Mexican coin is sideways.

The first coin you correctly IDed as Mexican.

The second coin is from the Phillipines not Puerto Rico. The Phillipines was annexed by the US following the Phillipine-American war and remained under US rule until after WW2. The US minted coins for the Phillipines. If you do a web search for "5 centavos Phillipines" you'll find info on your coin. Interestingly, they were minted by both the San Francisco and Philadelphia mints to be sent overseas. It's copper-nickel.

Your coin's photo is too blurry to make out a mintmark, but it appears there is none. It can be found at about the 7 o'clock position to the left of the date if it's there. No mark means it was minted in Philadelphia.

Neither is particularly valuable but they are numismatically intersting nonetheless - especially having found them in your driveway.

Cheers!
John

PS overlook the filthy fingers, the photo was 30 sec from the time I found it.
