Hi All,

I am very new to Civil War Relic hunting. I have always been interested in the Civil War just never really had the time to relic hunt. I recently bought a house that backs up to Pickett

The first one is a three ringer but hard to tell exactly what kind due to it being fired and not knowing the exact length, width, cavity depth and weight as there are so many different three ringers used during the war. The second bullet is most likely a modern small caliber round. Good luck on your next adventure and find more relics and post 'em up!! :)

That smaller bullet looks like a modern .22 rimfire projectile. The other is a Minnie style of the proper period. The skirt has been distorted by age in the ground, or, perhaps, it having glanced off something.

That's something you could simply step out your backdoor and make a Minnie hit.

ihuntrelics,

Since I am still learning my detector that is the mode I typically stay in. I got premission to hunt in my neighbors yard which gives me about 4 acres of land to search. Today I found a second bullet, an old nail, and what apear to be an old rail road spike. Hoping to find more. :)

Keith Cochran lives right down the road from you and should be able to ID anything you find. You may know him. He is on Rock Store Rd, off hwy 61.

I live over in Cartersville. After you hunt for a while using the 250 you may want to get a better detector and hunt it again. Keith runs Bonnie Blue Detectors and will probably let you try out some different machines to see what you like if you decide to upgrade, he is a good guy.

If I were you i'd hunt that place myself and hunt it for several years. You'll be surprised how you will keep making finds. You should find some buttons, they usually read just above a nickel, cuff buttons read a little lower.

Everyone needs a site like this and I hope you'll hunt it yourself. You'll learn a lot from it and it will give you a couple of years of hunting if it is 4 acres. Then a new machine will open it up all over again. When you get ready to move from the 250 you might want to try a T2 or a Troy or a Tejon, if they work well there and they should.

Good luck and post more finds!!

Julien
