I’ve been a long time Whites owner, and I just got my MXT a little over 2 weeks ago and I have really been enjoying it, and that’s what it’s all about, is having fun with it.
When people talk about depth you always here about that deep coin they dug, well for me about 99% of the coins I dig are less than 4 inches deep and that because I hunt parks and schools and just about any place that people gather. Where you want the depth is in older sites, to find those deep coins.
As far as how the MXT is in trashy areas, I’ve been pleased with it.
I can think of one place that I would want a smaller coil, it’s where a hotel once stood and burnt down in the 1950’s, and is a vacant lot now that catches all the trash.
I can’t say how it is beech hunting because I don’t live near any beaches, it’s something I would like to do one of these days.
Just in the short time that I’ve owned the MXT I would have to give it a 9 out 10. It’s very easy to learn and use and I find it ID’s target well. One thing that has impressed me about it is that it can sniff out and ID nickels with ease. Nickels are tuff little critters because of all the pull tabs in this world. I keep track of my finds and my recovery of nickels has doubled and my recovery of pull tabs has dropped off.
The preset of 9 is just a little to hot for this area so I turn the gain down to 6-7.
One other thing I have learned along the way, and I’ll tell you in a short story about it. About Three years ago my wife had just gotten a Garret GTA 350 with target ID. Well I was out taking it for a spin at the fair grounds when I came across this older gentleman with a Garret that had to be as old as he was. We talked for a while and I showed him all the bells and whistles of the wife’s new machine. Then we started hunting and he was going over the same are I just went prior to meeting him. After a while I stopped and went over to say good bye and ask him if he had any luck. Well he had over $2 in change verse my ½ dozen pennies and pouch full of trash.
Moral of the story is: it’s the person more than the machine that makes the difference.
I think about him often.
