Years ago I had Garrett a.d.s. detector 1980 0r 82 I seen one go on ebay the other day for 400.00 that's what I paid for for the one I had 25 years ago. are these detectors that good or what ? for that price & 1 or 2 hundred more $ you can get a new one with the latest technology right ? could someone please explain the difference in a 25 year old detector & a new on to me. By the way I think I want to stick with Garrett I had good fortune with them in the past, I just don't understand the prices thanks Mark

somebody is either nuts or has more money then they know what to do with or the seller is one of the best salesman ever.

has a collectors forum and the guys that post there are astounded at the prices those older machines fetch on ebay. It must be a nostalgia thing.

Brokenagain,

The person that paid that much money for the old machine may also have had one years ago and just wants to reminisce with old memories.
The new technology is so complex. The new machines discriminate, were some of the older machines were all metal. It will save allot of digging when it comes to the bottle caps and iron nail (square nails.
The Garrett GTI 2500 series detector is one of the best units out there.
Mr. Garrett hunts all over the world and has made some of the most amazing finds that anybody could ever make, of coarse using a Garrett metal detector. If you are looking for a new machine from Garrett I would recommend purchasing the video of the machine you are interested in. There are a few videos that have two of there machines on one tape. The GTI 2500/1500 or the ACE 150/250 series. The videos are $11.30 delivered to your house (in the USA) and a little more out of the country. It is a small price top pay for knowledge before you spend money on possibly the wrong machine. I can get any information to you on Garrett. If you decide to purchase a machine you would be refunded the purchase price of the video. I can send you the most current Garrett Buyers Guide. It explains quite a bit but the videos do a much better job. (They are a must see video) There is also some special spring sales going on now on Garrett detectors. A person can save allot of money this spring. The 2500 series comes with a 9.5" search coil a 12.5" search coil (for greater depth)a pair of Garrett Head phones (to here those faint deep targets)and the Supreme GTI case(to protect your investment) for the same price as just the machine!:detecting:
You could be up and detecting in no time just by turning on any Garrett detector in the factory preset program of your choice for what ever type of hunting you desire.
If you have any more questions on the Garrett machines you can also call me at Treasures Down Under 269-506-6475 my name is Tim

thanks Mark

The Garrett 2500 is a great machine, you should find some nice stuff with it. Good Luck and post your finds so we can see them.

Brokeagain, that Garrett ADS selling for $400.00 was a fluke! Most of those machines sell in the $100.0 to $50.00 neighborhood! Most of the replies here have never used a Garrett ADS, in the right hands it can compete with these newer machines also they excel in special places!..................HH............Joe
