My sovereign has developed a faint background buzz in silent search. I need to get it checked out. Minelab won't let me talk to customer service. I get the we will call back routine. And they don't. Nor can I get return instructions. I called broken detector and they don't work on sovereigns. It's not a big thing but i want it checked out. If you someone who will do this then send me a reply or pm. I guess they no longer service detectors.

I just checked my GT and tried to get it to give a buzz in silent threshold and found two ways to do it. one is you can turn up the threshold knob and the threshold again becomes audible, the other way is by turning down the volume to half volume or below and that will give off a slight buzz. so make sure your volume is over the halfway mark and your original threshold setting isnt to high.

I called yesterday myself and its not the first time they have said they will call back(and they always have) but if they dont Im not going to be a happy camper either. I spoke to a guy named Trevor who said I will be called back within 48 hours.

Mine is working just like yours Niel. The threshold will start to come back if I turn down the volume. I don't hear any other kind of sound though.

I called Mine lab twice in the past 2 weeks . A technician was suppose to call me back or leave instructions on my answering machine. Ive had NO reply on either occasion
I'm sure the post was a little harsh but I am frustrated. If the person had said" we're moving and behind on repairs. Let me take you information and I will let you know when we can deal with this." I wouldn't have had an issue with it. But to say we will call you back and then no response leaves me hanging. My issue is minor but if I was setting here with a $4000 gold detector needing service I would be pissed. Anyway, it appears I'm not the only one and maybe it's a temporary situation. I still like the sovereign and would hate to give it up.

I've noticed that if you don't have the threshold turned down quite enough (to where you can JUST hardly hear it at all) before flipping over to Silent Search you will give a slight scratchy or buzzy threshold in the background that is very faint and broken up because it's dipping between not being heard and being just able to be heard. In other words, try cranking down the threshold to where you just can hardly hear anything (which is a bit lower than the normal level of threshold I normally use when hunting in threshold mode) and then flipping over to Silent Search.
Another possibility (perhaps related to the volume discussion above) is that strange things can happen when several functions on a device involve each other through various POT settings. For instance, I've found on things like radios that a dirty volume dial POT can screw up tuning, tone, balance, or other adjustments in strange ways. Meaning, there's a slight possibility that if you are finding a certain setting on one dial fixes something on another then one or the other might very well be a dirty pot that's causing funky things to happen. Not saying that's the case with the volume thing, but the first thing I'd do is clean all the pots and then see if the problem goes away. Search this or the mods forum for cleaning Sovereign POTs and you should find some info on how to do that.

I have ex cal still under warranty. I am having problems with threshold being eratic. Call Mine lab repair center and could not talk to anyone but was told would call back. They did call back but seems like a heck of a way to run a business. I was told pro bally a 30 day turn around. I am not a happy camper.
