I need a F70/75 specialist :p

Hi everyone, I'm in my 9th year of metal detecting but I'm new to Fisher and just bought a slightly used F70, hardly has a scratch on it. I can go thru the whole menu and scan anything and it reads it accurately. But when I turn it on it beeps crazy like it has interferance going on and I can't get it to ground balance. I've messed with the frequencies and sensativity but it still has that repeated beeping sound like it's disturbed and it's driving me nuts!

Am I missing something or doing something wrong? It keeps on with a high pitch beeping in the number range 89-91 or so. I've taken it to the areas that I've detected before with my Minelab X-70 where's there is no interferance so I think it's just me

...and yes that batteries are new and the cable connection is tight and secure.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Chris
... this forum seems to have a lot of good info, I can't seem to get to much out of the "other one" that I'm using. Looks like I'll be visiting here more often

how high are you running the sensitivity try starting out around 50 see if that helps keep the threshold at -3 if it stll acts like that it might have a problem with the coil or something thats a great machine you have there i sure miss my f70, keep us posted hh

I'm totally new to fisher, so this may be of no help at all, but have you done a reset on yours yet? When I got my f75, it was just going nuts. Doing the factory reset helped out a lot.
Good luck!
Darren

Try 60 sens, 1 disc, DE mode, DP tones, -3 thresh, 1 notch. Push the HZ button if you are getting EMI interference in the field, to ground balance, drop the disc to AT find a clear section of dirt, gb, then click disc back up to 1. Lots of posts here regarding the F70, lots of help available.
You got a real weapon there for half the price, so you should be able to pay for it pretty quickly. Good luck, and let us know if you have any questions!

Of course make sure all connectors are properly seated, the coil/coil cover does not have foreign material on it/in it.

As Darren suggested, do a factory reset.RESET function
1. Turn detector off
2. Press-and-hold both the GROUNDGRAB and MENU buttons.
3. Turn the detector on, while you are still pressing the buttons.
4. Detector displays

Thanks guys for the help and info with this. I've reset it, lowered te sensativity to zero and the notch down to one. Also the threshold lowered to the negative, seemed fine in my backyard. But when i got into the field it's still it's doing it. It's a little more quiet when I have the speed set at dE and when I set the speed to SL it's worse. When I walk forward not moving the coil side to side it's quiet but when I swing back and forth then it goes crazy AND it does not make any interference noise while in the air. It's nearly impossible to get a ground brab. When I raise and lower it, it beeps also. Just frustrating. So it looks like I'll be sending it to Texas next week and have them go thru it.

Might try one other thing if you have not found the problem yet; while outdoors and in normal hunting enviornment, reach down and with the machine going wiggle the connection a little at the top and next to the coil. Sometimes these joints are good and the root plug is suffering internal problems. like to dorve me nuts. mine was the top connector in the brain.

Good Luck

If you have the 5" coil try it to see if it is better , I had the problem twice with the 11" coil, and both times they were bad ,once from water and don't know what caused the other. Here's some great Info that helped me out with this problem. You know what I'll PM it to you.

I have the F75se so not sure how this applies to the F70. But try turning the disc above 4 or 5 and the sensitivity to around 60. From there increase the sensitivity higher and higer until it becomes too chatty and then back off a bit. The F75se also has seven freq offsets to deal with EMI and such. Some of these settings make the machine much quieter.

Thanks, It's Texas now and I'm waiting for their phone call with their findings...

My F75se wouldn't ground balance at all. The stock coil was just plain acting weird. I sent them the coil and they sent me a new one. Works perfectly now. Good luck, hope you can get the good results as I did. Let us know.
