with Tesoro that is. I keep trying other brands & models, not that I have anything against Tesoro detectors just that I like to try different machines. Time after time I always end up selling the "other" brand & get another Tesoro. This time I bought a Sidewinder

You are a very interesting individual! I have seen you buy a lot of Tesoros in the past. Tesoro detectors are hard to beat in my book. I have owned dozens of detectors in past years - and I can tell you that with all the new bells and whistles coming out - there really has not been that much progress within the digital realm.

Compass??? Watch your language Hombre, lol. It was a good detector but I am so used to Tesoro detectors anything else is just not the same. I ended up selling the Compass to a nice fella in Ohio that wanted a detector with a good notch system so he can hunt an old drive in that is littered with pull tabs, even though a am not a notch kind of guy the Compass notch system worked very well. Funny how former Tesoro owners always come back to Tesoroland.
Tesoro's are lightweight, small compact units, have knobs for us to fittle with, have plenty of depth capabilities,
find really small stuff and are just plain fun to use.
Gave up the Compass did you....had to try them see what you might be missing and see what all the fuss was about. All the
brands and models of vintage years are cool to try....then it comes back to you, those old units are clunkers and they really don't
have any depth advantage in bad soils or some in good soils. Then your arm is sore at the end of a day's worth of hunting. But,
aren't they cool looking with all the knobs and meters, lots to play with. There is only one 1994 vintage detector that has tickled my fancy,
the reason I like it so much is that it, like a Tesoro, small compact, balances nicely in stock control box position, has a few knobs to tinker with
and it finds stuff, and is my favorite color is blue. No it's not our Detectorpro Wader (would gladly get rid of for a Tigershark again but, it's my wife's).
It's actually a Minelab Sterling.

Speaking of blue, I really like the black and blue color scheme of the Tejons sold in the UK.

I'll be getting another Tesoro myself in the near future.

Saw ya grab the Sidewinder and lose the XP Pro...man that was a good machine for me....you gave that one up a tad fast I'm thinkin...lol

The Conquistador is really paying off for me now tho.

= = I also try a lot of detectors.

I, personally, like the bells and whistles on high end detectors. Lots of people denounce them, suggesting that "Minimalism Is Best."
But I find that with the fancy features often comes a boatload of useful things, too. I have recently come to really appreciate the new Fisher "F" series, for example, partciularly the F70 and F75. And the "old standby," Whites excellent XLT, will always have a home at my house.

But I wont be trading my Tiger Shark any time soon, since I'm a freshie by geography and it is the best in fresh water.
I also keep one "dirt Tesoro" model in my arsenal all the time. Currently it's a Golden uMax. As Mike Hillis says, "Tones Rule!"
You go with what you know often enough. The thing to do is to get the numbers down to those units you actually use often enough to make them pay. The rest are just playing around....

I kept seeing you doing all that trading and wondered "when does that boy find time to hunt?"

I know what you mean though. I had my Deleon up for trade for an X70, then thought "why? It's a damned good unit. And I see more people trading X70s than Deleons"

Everyone has to go through that "grass is always greener" syndrome.

Hope you're doing good on the farm.

I sure wish Tesoro would make a Salt Water machine other than a PI one (I hate all that trash diggin)....I use a Silver Umax for fresh water and dirt diggin and a Detector Pro Wader for fresh deep water and salt water..but when I use the Pro I just don't have the confidence in it like I do my ole trusty Silver Umax....thanks for reading my sob story....HH

Hi Hightone, heck I have lots of time to hunt, I only work 7 days a week and I am getting richer by the minute farming at $10.00/hundred weight. We are getting paid the same prices for our milk that we did in the 70's and as everyone knows the cost of everything else hasn't increased any since then ;). As for the :compass: it was ok but so much different than any :tesoro: I have had. Out of all the detectors that I have owned that wasn't a Tesoro the White's Eagle II SL that I had was the best, it was a really good detector. I do trade alot, it is my only hobby and some people are addicted to scratch tickets, bingo, cards, etc. my addiction is buying trying & then selling detectors. One day I was telling my Mother "I ought to become a detector dealer" and she said "you are". Hmm guess I can't get much closer to being one than I am,lol. Sure have meant alot of nice folks around the country whellin & dealin though & have p@ssed a few off by not waiting my 90 day waiting period to sell :ban::lol:. Steve.

Haven't tried too many of the different machines out there, but of what I have tried, I like the Tesoros the best. Their light weight and simplicity make them just plain fun to hunt with and they're more than capable enough for the hunting I do.

I made the leap from a Explorer II to a BAndido 2uMax about 6 months ago. I have to admit I miss the depth and the Smart Screen of the Explorer but the weight factor and old bones in my body make using the Bandido a pleasure to use. Just for the heck of it here's a list of detectors I have owned. Sometimes I think I'm more of a detector addict then a detecting addict.

Famous Trails:thumbdown:
Minelab Musketeer Colt:thumbup:
Bountyhunter Sharpshooter II  ( Hunted fine, just cheap and fell apart )
Tesoro Toltec 100
White's IDX Classic w/MrB mods:thumbup:
Ace250:thumbup:
Minelab Musketeer Advantge  Was not much different the the Colt.
Minelab Soverign GT:thumbdown: Was heavy and aukward to use. Deep though!
Whites M6
Compass Judge 2  I still haven't figured out how to use this antique.
Minelab Xterra 70:thumbup:
Minelab Ex 2  But heavy.
Tesoro Bandido 2uMax
Tesoro Vaquero  I like the Bandido more.
