i met three newbies yesterday

GRAY GHOST

New member
hello all, i went back late yesterday to a place near the five forks battlefield i had hunted before[with permission, of course.] the land was being cleared to build houses and now a few of them are built. a bunch of stuff was found by myself and several others there. when i pulled up i noticed a young guy, his wife i presumed and a young boy of about 8. each had a brand new ace 250, no headphones, and were digging with trowels in the hard clay. i introduced myself, the guy told me they had just gotten the ace 250s and wanted to do something together as a family. i showed them my finds from the morning, a pair of flat buttons and a bullet, they also told me they had been stood up by a more experienced detectorist he worked with, and didnt have much of an idea of what they were doing. i directed them to a softer digging area in the treeline, and the finds started coming out of the ground! they kept calling me over to double check, but that was ok. the little boy found 2 tent grommets, the guys wife found a really nice thick brass belt rivet, [best find of the day] i found a shot bullet and a small knapsack rivet. the guy didnt find much of anything. i gave them all a quick crash course in swinging and iding good beeps from bad, and detecting in general. we all had a good time, at the end of the day i told them about finds forum, what a great help resource it is, and they promised to check it out. i can say i had a good time, and the family was just thrilled at what they had found! hh,

It's better to make friends than enemies.

I hope you coached them on educate and

the rights and responsibilities of the public.

In other words, a mild coarse in metal detector

ethics.

Sometimes people don't want to hear that.

That can give me a clue about their personality.

Glad you had a good time.

I met a family at a playground where my headphones went out. They were kind of interested.
He said he had a Bounty Hunter, muffler style, he had received as Christmas present, but had
not used it yet. So I let them use my Silver while I used my Euro. I kept coaching them here
and there. The were amazed when I pulled a silver pendant, with a stone of some kind, out of
the wood chips. They struggled and struggled. I don't think they found anything much in spite of
my coaching. But they had a good time though, and now I may have one more competitor. I
don't feel very threatened however. I told them a little about ethics. She seem more interested
and capable than he did. He didn't want to listen. He would rather have just hogged the Silver.

HH,

appreciate it, td - oddly enough, the woman was far more receptive to a little education than the husband was, as evidenced by her top find of the day, between all of us. i thought it would be the other way around, but he didnt want to listen either, as evidenced by his finds... absolutely nothing. hh,
