We kinda ran a halfway house for kinfolks kids. It would have been more accurate to have said that in addition to our two daughters we pretty much raised three nieces and two nephews. And as I posted below, two of the nieces are/were Elvis Presley's cousins. Here's their pic when both were named homecoming maids the same year in highschool. I almost had a stroke when I found out what I paid for those dresses, gowns, or whatever they're called .

That's Toni, the younger one, on the left and Tanya at right, two completely different personalities. Tanya was as good as anyone could expect a kid to be, never complained and would do what was asked of her with a smile. Toni was just the opposite, she was hard headed, obstinate and would argue with a stop sign. Both are in the medical field, Toni is a Radiologist and Tanya is a registered nurse. Strangely, they completely reversed roles after they were grown. Toni is good as gold and Tanya gradually slipped into the behavior typical of most of the Presleys.

When they were living here there was always a houseful of kids, and like most kids they wanted to be entertained all the time. Every day off work I got they pestered me to take them somewhere, do something with them or buy them something. One Sunday I decided I would take them somewhere they didn't want to go, or so I thought. I took them over in Alabama to some places that are wild, with cliffs, big rocks, rivers and waterfalls. Rough places for little girls, or so I thought again. They loved it so for the next several years it was a trip over there every weekend I had off, if the weather allowed. The pic above has a few of the places.

This is Ricky, one of the two nephews we raised. He died of cancer two weeks past his 33rd birthday. Even before he and his brother Ronny lived with us they were here every weekend from 8 o,clock on Saturday morning until 6 o,clock on Sunday night. All the kids that lived here seemed as much ours as our two daughters.

This is my wife and I when we were courting. Taken in the spring of 1961, a year and half before we got married. Wish I had the car now, 1953 Chevy Bel Air hardtop with canary yellow laquer and white leather upholstery.

...and some fine photography.
I can tell you're proud of those gals. Fred is gonn laugh out loud when he sees Ricky posed on that horse!
Thanks for sharing, buddy. <><

I sure like the picture posts! Those girls are beauty's. I bet you had to fight the boys off.
I sure wish I had done more with my kids when they were young. All I did was work. Rarely a weekend off. I am paying for it now.
It looks like you took on a big load and handled it just fine. Good man.
Love the pictures

Thanks John. You're right, I'm proud of them, proud of both my daughters and also the other niece, Amy, who will get her degree in education in a couple of months. Amy was very introverted and withdrawn, and hard to communicate with. Her dad pretty much abandoned her and her mom when she was about 5 years old and it had a severe effect on her but she's doing really great now.

The rolled up britches legs? That was the only way to go then, seems pretty silly now .

I also worked way too much all through the 1980's, usually anywhere from 56 to 80 hours a week but except for one year I would usually get a couple of days, or day and a half, a month off. Plus it being a nasty, sorry, 95% lazy union job I got a little more vacation time than most in this area .

Thanks for sharing all of these with us. I just love it that everyone got the photo mode, and sent some! Everyone else should do the same!
JB, I think you and your wife touched a lot of people's lives when they were younger, and continue to do so today! My hat's off to you and your wife for sharing yourselves so much! There needs to be more people like you all!

Thanks for the kind words Lil' Sis . Even though I'm not a very religious person I'll have to say we've been blessed.

Thank you Lil Brother. You're right, I do have a nice looking family that photographs well, as long as I'm not in the picture .

thanks, buddy for all those pics and story of your life.......I see the rolled up blue jeans in the 1961 pic, and I have a habit lately of starting to do this, to keep from dragging them around
32 is too short and 34 is way to long, so, i just roll up some of the 34's
thanks, again for the pics
