I may Win a Detectorpro Pirate Tonight, anybody swing one??

New member
I'm front runner in a contest where the 1st prize is a Vibraprobe but the general prize is a Detectorpro Pirate which I also have a good shot at. Obviously, the Pirate can't replace my Excal or my CZ21 but Iwas thinking it might make a good back up detector or I could leave it at my home in Canada so I'd have something to freshwater hunt with when on return visits.(summer only)
My question is does anybody have experience with this new unit and if so how do you like it.

Cheers,

BDA:cool:

Bobbie has one.. I tried one it was ok but not my cup of tea as the sensitivty is factory set and it tends to make the detector a bit noisy.. some really like it though :)

By the by bda...What are you thoughts now that you have had the chance to use the excal and the cz? Which do you like better? Pro's and Con's??? I'M curious to know as I am thinking about another water machine...maybe another excal? Maybe a CZ...maybe a whites beach-hunter id with the new 12" coil.

I broke the CZ21 on my second outing with it, it's no where near as rugged as the Excal. To be fair, I've mostly broken my Excal but it took me 2 years to do it and I like to hunt rough water.

Bide your time, save your money and get the underwater version of the Whites TDI machine when it comes out late this year. We're talking serious heat here if they can overcome the heat build up problems. Cancel the gym membership if you get your hands on one of these babies, it will 'Pump You Up'. You will be digging to China with the first discriminating PI unit.

JMHO,

Thought the new whites Surfmaster Dual PI was not gonna be based on the TDI, that it was an evoulution of the Surf PI pro. I'm sure many of us are hoping for a PI w/ disc. in an underwater package....Your not holding out on us, are you???

The Dual Field technology is a different beast all together but an interesting one. I doubt it would outperform my Excal in Bermuda's low mineralization. What I'm looking for is a 'hammer' for those times when an extra deep machine means the difference between glory and defeat. I've considered the idea of getting my hands on a TDI and enclosing it in a waterproof case but I'll be patient for a while yet before I jump into a modifier's nightmare. Lots of heat generated by those Li Ion batteries, enough to cook the circuits and maybe enough to cook a waterproof case.:surprised:

If the new TDI can punch 3 feet to a gold ring then it will be worth it provided there's discrimination. No way do I want to dig 3 feet to a rusty nail.:nono::rage:
This wait until they sort out the underwater TDI gives us a chance to see just how well the land version performs BEFORE we plunk down $1,600 plus shipping to Bermuda $250 plus Customs Duty 33% $533 = $2,383.00 for BDA to try out a new machine. OUCH! and no warranty because I live outside of the continental US.

Not sure what I'll do with a pinpointer in the surf, I carry enough stuff with me already when I'm hunting.
