I made my first Southern Meal today and boy is it .........

At work last week folks were talking about Butter Beans, not being shy to belley up to any dinner table I said what are Butter Beans :shrug:

Them Alabama folks looked at me like I was from outa space :lol:

Dang Ray, you ain't never had no Butter Beans and corn bread up north :lol: I said no, have you ever had a brat cooked in beer and onions then tossed on the grill down here in the south :cool:, the replied was huh! :unsure:

So I got a ear full on how Butter Beans were great boiled with some bits of raw bacon or a raw pork chop for taste, I asked if anybody cooked their Butter Beans in a slow cooker all day, I got the same look huh! :unsure: ......... :lol:

Seems folks down south at least the ones I work with don't even own a slow cooker :blink: I live and die by my slow cooker for great meals after a day of work, they are alot cheaper then a wife plus they don't yell at ya all the time, turn off the T.V., dinner is ready, sit down and eat :lmfao: Just kidding ladys ;)

I thought I would give these Butter Beans a try, most folks here use the dry Butter Beans and boil them but I decided to use the Canned Seasoned Southern Style Butter Beans plus six boneless pork chops, a huge sweet onion and a large green pepper, after browning the chops in the oven boiler I sliced and diced the onion and green pepper and tossed everything into the slow cooker this morning and set it on slow cook, man oh man, when I walked into the house tonight after work their was the smell of a hard working wife cooking all day for her man but wiithout the wife, hahaha :lol:

The meal was great :thumbup:

Got a hankerin for some good ole soup beans and cornbread and a big ole glass of milk. Everywhere I went and ask for them, the waitresses looked at me like I was crazy. At the resturant that we ate breakfast at was the best place that we ate up there. After 3 weeks of northern breakfast I finally talked her into a fried bologna sandwich, Had to show the cook how to fix em but it was well worth it. ate em for breakfast the remaining 3 weeks there. Never did get any grits. Guess it's just where you're at that dictates what ya eat. Always heard about all the cheese up there, all I saw was corn, as far as the eye could see. Was an intersting trip, but I sure did miss home here in the mountains. I'll bet you will learn alot of new foods down here, just keep an open mind and ya might be pleasently surprized.
 
Like doing the dishes and cleaning up the mess after the meal while her man watches TV!!.........along with other things too.

Not all wives nag.........there are plenty of men who nag worse than women!!
 
comes to cheese, barr none. And yes Jim, you won't find grits in Wisconsin but they are their, it's kinda like Metal Detecting, you hunt the ground that is before you, if you couldn't find old age cheese in Wisconsin you were not in Wisconsin :biggrin:
