I own a few detector and my most recent addition is my wife's uncle's Eagle spectrum. Poor guy is just too old to do anything anymore. Anyway that Spectrum as many of you old timers know weighs a ton and after an hour or so of swinging it my arm gets tired. What can I do about that? I'm too poor to buy a hipmount and new rod assembly. Well I have found that the Spectrum's lower rod fits perfectly into my Xterra's lower rod shaft thus solving my rod problem. Pretty cool I think! Now all I have to do is figure out how to hip mount the control box and I'm good to go! Any ideas?

Does your wife have a sewing machine? I made my own control box cover and meter cover for my whites M6 out of a weather proof vinyl that is tough but not too thick for a standard sewing machine, For you I would then recomend getting a roll of cordoura( thick belt material ) to create a way to hold onto on your waist, sew on some velcro and TA DA! All of these materials are easily obtained at a fabric store even Walmarts craft dept.It pays to be like "one of the guys and one of the girls" in this hobby, my husband laughs when I say this! I too have a tight belt and do it myself is my middle name!

hi dang, a fella named goldensilver on the bounty hunter forum came up with a novel way to do just what you want to do... he detached the control box from the shaft, had a longer cable custom made, [25 bucks] and ended up putting the control box in a old army pouch slung across his shoulder. goldensilver is an older man, so it's really helped him a lot to be able to swing just the shaft and coil. hh,
