I LUV the Tesoro Cutlass II uMax w/5.75 Concentric Coil

Some weeks ago I bought a nice Cutlass II from Rick Hart and unfortunately the coil was cracked. Rick had it a short time and never looked under the coil cover.

Well being the great guy he is he quickly said he'd send me a 5.75 coil in replacement.

The stock 8" was sent off to Tesoro (still waiting on it) and today the Tesoro 5.75 from Rick arrived.

WOW! I don't know if I even care if Tesoro sends me that 8" coil back! This little concentric coil blows me away!

When the 8" stock is returned repaired I'm going to put it up against the 5.75 and I'm not sure at all the 8" will win.

Over the years I've owned several Tesoro Silver uMax machines plus most of the other Tesoro models. I know what a Silver uMax air tests at with the stock coil.

Thanks Rick for opening my eyes to the 5.75 concentric

you will love that 5.75 coil.... it works fantastic in trash. i pulled 4 indian head pennies and an old mercury dime from a small church yard that i had hunted with my fishers and tesoro detectors with stock coils and i would have bet there wasn't another old coin in that area. on shallow coins the signal seems to "dance" and on deeper coins it is just a sweet mellow sound. have fun with that coil................roger

Thanks for the subject. I just odered a Cutlass II Umax. Now I will have to get the small coil, Beale.

You're welcome.

The Cutlass II is suposed to be the same as the Silver uMax but it doesn't seem the same to me. I really like the Silver but the Cutlass seems deeper. I know it air tests better on a penny than my Silver's did. But then maybe it's just this one machine?

I did an air test last night with Cutlass II uMax and the 5.75 concentric coil and easily got 10 inches on an Indian cent. I just stood there with my mouth open and couldn't believe it. This is as good or nearly as good as my Minelab Sovereign GT with 10" Tornado coil.

I know lots of people don't consider air tests as anything but I do.

Another thing that speaks well of the Cutlass is the seller would like to buy it back from me. That's always a good sign.

Tfor2, i can tell you one thing, if i was getting those air tests with that combo i would not of sold it. Let me know when you get tired of it ill take it.

I may just do a YouTube video on this machine. I set the machine in a jig with a ruler set for accurate measuring. Too many people just eyeball and that's hard to judge.

I also use a Depth Master which doesn't add depth or air test distance but it does max out the weakest "beep" and keeps the loudest "beep" down so it won't hurt the ears.

I don't have a stock 8" coil here right now but when mine gets back from Tesoro I may then do a video comparison. At this point I'm sure the 5.75 does better than the 8.

Anyway, after 42 years in the hobby I learned something new. :wiggle:

Hi Tfor2

Was you useing a Texas fisherman's ruler scale for the depth test on 5.75 coil with the Cutlas? I mean 10" on a penny with a 5.75" concentric coil is " bit of a grab a number out of the hat". I have had experience with TEN different Tesoro's in my personal collection and never got those kind of numbers on my Tesoros with the 5.75" coil. I have tried the 5.75 on a Siver sabre, Inca, Bandido, Bandido ll and Bandido ll

It's a Free Country, Thanks to God and our founding fathers.

And here is my free thought to you, since you are not making credible and truthfull statements as to true detector performance. Hey, I'll just ignore your posts like any sensible person would............maybe you can Bull Feces the new guys on here, but this Ol' timer ain't foolled by youir outrageous deep claims on a 5.75" coil. Goodby

I just retested the coil and I was wrong.

I don't know what I did wrong the first time but maybe I picked up metal in the room.

Anyway, I apologize for getting a little ticked off. That was wrong.

I'd say now the 5.75 is still a good coil but air test is more like has been posted before by others.

Again, sorry about the mistake.

This is my last post which I'm sure will be a blessing to many.

Hey Tfor2

I was just following a lively discussion on air depth tests which I tend not to agree with, come on, we can still talk about detecting techniques and whatever without getting mad on here. I like these technical stye posts and if the discussion gets a bit heated we all should have the common sense to back off a bit. I am not a know it all and welcome you to stay on this forum and continue to contrbute. Thanks

Randy

Randy (Hombre) is a good guy!!----He ain't meaning to get anybody "bent out of shape"--he's just makeing a meaningful post.---Balls, we're all friends here (or should be)!-----Here's one fer ya---you can run all those air tests you want to "till the cows come in"--but all bets are off when that coil hits the ground (too many variables)--FACT!!----Air tests are only good to a certain point & FAR too many people put FAR too much stock in them!------Now don't nobody go gittin "bent out of shape" at me!! :crylol:  ---------Del
