I love those downtown vacant lots

Even though we had 7" of snow on Wednesday, I couldn't help but get out for a little while this morning. I called my hunting buddies and told them to meet me at a vacant lot near the oldest part of town (downtown). They were a little reluctant as it was 18 degrees and these lots are full of trash. Fortunately, the ground wasn't very frozen and there were some areas of where the snow had melted down to an inch or so. I strapped on the Sunray X5 and set my sensitivity to 15, Fast ON. Within the first 15 minutes I dug the Barber half. Pretty excited I started an outward circle pattern from where I dug it. I soon found an Indian about 18" away. I kept expanding outward and found the wheats. After seeing my finds, my buddies started hunting this area heavy. I moved on to another patch and pulled a few clad. Once my buddies had moved on, I went back to the where I found the half dollar and started the same pattern again. About 8 feet away, I found the Barber dime. About 20 minutes later my battery went dead. I walked back to the car only to find that I forgot my spare battery pack. Since it was time for NFL football to start, I decided to head home.

The more I hunt these vacant lots, the more I think they are an untapped hunting areas. Most people aren't willing to put up with all of the trash signals OR they use too large of a coil causing good targets to be masked. This means that a dedicated person with a small coil and a slow swing can find some goodies amongst the trash.

No value, but this mason jar lid helps date the vacant lot as this company was "in business" circa 1850-1860s. I considered it trash when I dug it. However, I decided to clean it rather than throw it away. Kinda cool.

Finding a Barber Half right at the start would have made me warm enough to keep working that area also. You did great! Very well done and you will have to go back next year and really work it to see what else is there. I would imagine it isn't going to take long for the ground to freeze on you now. Good Luck and HH.

Great finds but even more impressive is that you went out in the cold with snow on the ground. The reason I say this is I went to an old town site today temp 26 and three inches of snow looked around and decided it was too cold. You got silver I got nothing. Terrific finds Txbluesman. Quick question. Are you still getting the split screen? I'm hit or miss with mine. It comes and goes. Of course it's been below freezing for a week and a half here, so I haven't messed with it since then. Just curious.

Crispytoo - I only had the splitscreen that one day. You might want to call Minelab if yours is still doing it.

JamesND - We are suppose to be back in 50s towards the end of the week, so I plan on going back for some more goodies.

I just wish I had your kind of weather up here. Since I can't get out and find my portion of the finds, dig a couple goodies for me will ya! Hope you find a bunch more great finds when you return this weekend and hopefully a Seated or 2. Good Luck and HH.
