Even though we had 7" of snow on Wednesday, I couldn't help but get out for a little while this morning. I called my hunting buddies and told them to meet me at a vacant lot near the oldest part of town (downtown). They were a little reluctant as it was 18 degrees and these lots are full of trash. Fortunately, the ground wasn't very frozen and there were some areas of where the snow had melted down to an inch or so. I strapped on the Sunray X5 and set my sensitivity to 15, Fast ON. Within the first 15 minutes I dug the Barber half. Pretty excited I started an outward circle pattern from where I dug it. I soon found an Indian about 18" away. I kept expanding outward and found the wheats. After seeing my finds, my buddies started hunting this area heavy. I moved on to another patch and pulled a few clad. Once my buddies had moved on, I went back to the where I found the half dollar and started the same pattern again. About 8 feet away, I found the Barber dime. About 20 minutes later my battery went dead. I walked back to the car only to find that I forgot my spare battery pack. Since it was time for NFL football to start, I decided to head home.
The more I hunt these vacant lots, the more I think they are an untapped hunting areas. Most people aren't willing to put up with all of the trash signals OR they use too large of a coil causing good targets to be masked. This means that a dedicated person with a small coil and a slow swing can find some goodies amongst the trash.
