today as I was getting ready to hit the hunt field I noticed that one of the ears on the coil was cracked no on closer inspection broken..as i took off the coil the other ear fell apart also...Now I only relic hunt so I use the detector hard but do not abuse it...When I got home and looked at the coil the area that was broken is very thin...I know I can send it back but that is a pain in the a... Anyone else had this problem...My other Minelab's have better made coils....Just a vent and on top of all that had a bad day in the field....OH thanks to my friend he lent me his extra coil so I could continue to hunt

You just got a poorly made coil from the factory. I haven't had problem with any of the 4 coils I have used with my 70. It's not like you are swinging a lot of weight with each swing.

I have had the same problem with both of my coils on my Explorer..I believe that there is a fine line between tightening the platic screw too much and not enough so that it is too floppy...but I also was disappointed with the construction and think that the coil should be more like their 8" coil (very solid)...I am currently going over this issue with Minelab in Las Vegas
