I lmost wrapped my AT around a pole yesterday

I was so mad coming off the beach, guys I just can't get this machine down, I went to the beach, this one is all sand , no rocks, I ground balanced my machine, auto at 37, put my 'screwed up iron disc' to the 3rd 1, figuring it was 31, sen at half way, Pro mode , coin, swung it a few time and all I got was signals that were 10 inches down, I dug down and dug nothing, is this machine picking up real deep iron, I was digging down 2 feet or more, then when I went to the less wet sand, I would hear signals swinging in the 80's and couldn't pinpoint, any clues, plus it was 30 degrees out and the wind was 30 miles an hour, I was cold and ripped, this machine should be easier to figure out, I'm not a rookie, HELP

youre the one that the iro discrim only goes up to 9 and goes throught it like 4 times, but never shows like 35,37,etc. I really think you have a problem with your machine and should send it to garrett..

I want to know what is wrong first, I don't want to get it back and find the coil falses when it get back, I want it to run and then I can tell them what is wrong

Why aggravate yourself? Garret can find out in 5 minutes what the problem is. Something that is taking you weeks to determine and you may never know the answer. Good luck! HH jim tn

The Pro has quite a learning curve. You'll have to spend a good many hours with it to familiarize yourself wth all its quirks. As I told the other feller, you can't just pop it out of the box and start finding goodies with it. The PRO stands for "professional" in every sense of the word. It's not a snap to learn but once you do it will reward you well.

Doesn't sound like a "learning curve" problem to me----it does sound like a problem detector.----I would agree with the others---send it in for a check over/repair.

Call Garrett. I did when I thought I had a problem and discovered it was just user error (huh???) after talking with them on the phone.

I have been out a few times and am trying to just master std mode mostly. I switch to pro mode on occasion, usually to just to confirm if its a repeatable signal. When I get better at understanding the subtleties of the machine ill tackle pro mode harder.

Found a Franklin half so no complaints here!

Get it fixed and be patient. Its a fun machine. Good luck. I'm sure it will turn out fine.

The high tone sound reminds me of an old pinball machine.

You may have been over lots of deep iron. Did it do the same thing when you moved to a different area? The AT is very sensitive and it will go deep and real deep on big targets. Try setting your detector on the Pro mode with zero discrimination and only dig the signals that come in at 38 and up on your VDI numbers that are shallower than 10". If you don't get any shallow targets the spot you are at must be hunted very hard and you may have to find a better spot or wait very long between targets. After you get use to those settings and have learned what the detector is telling you play around with the discrimination and set it to where it suits your hunting needs. Just about all of the jewelry I have been digging has been pretty shallow. Deep big iron and lots of times cans will fool all detectors. If you dig down over a foot and your target is lots deeper in the hole after running your probe in the hole (making sure it is not on the side of the hole) your target is going to be big which means it could be a large piece of iron or a very deep can. I just cover up my hole and move on because jewelry is not going to be that big. Sometimes you can get in an area where there is lots of deep iron like pipes. I have dug some pull tabs at about a foot deep that sounded iffy. So somewhere a little deeper you will not hear jewelry and anything beyond that is going to be big unless you are hearing a big gold ID Bracelet but it is lots more likely to be trash. The instruction manual says that the audio will go deeper than the VDI numbers so you have to keep that in mind. At the beach you are looking for rings, jewelry, and maybe coins so 95% of the really big deep targets a foot and a half or deeper that you can hear with your detector on the surface you don't want anyway.

If it was a salt water beach then your ground balance is set to high and you are chasing false signals from the salt. You need to manually set your ground balance to get the machine to work properly. In fact I would manually ground balance in any case as the auto ground balance circuit doesn't always grab the correct value and if it is too far out then you will get falsing.

I missed the part about the iron discrimination cycling at 9. I now concur with everyone else - send that machine back it is not working to spec.

If you want to learn your machine on the beach, stay up in the dry sand. Start in the standard mode. Seeing that you

I think you guys are forgetting that his screen doesnt register the iron discrim numbers correctly. I would say there is a problem with the unit.
