I like the AT Pro best in Pro zero, 0 iron disc

The AT Pro is working best for me in Pro zero with 0 iron disc. If you disc nail say at 31 you will be missing some coins. I have been testing it on my hardwood floor that is full of nails. In places on the floor with iron at 31 in zero mode I will not hear the coin all the way around. Go to 0 iron disc'ed in zero mode and the coin comes thru clearly.. I think the iron tones are pleasant to hear too when you hear everything.

Went to my hunted out little school house for an hour and got a 1914 wheat. Would have been nice if it had a D on it.

I am liking this detector. Might take it in the water.

I use custom mode just because it retains the setting I want. The settings I use the most are Disc = 40 with Iron Audio on. If I want somewhat calmer stuff to listen to I will switch to Pro Zero with Disc of 00 and Iron Audio turned off. I started out with setting Disc in the low to mid 30's because that what was being recommended by quite a few people. My reasoning for using Disc of 40 is to spread the Low, Mid and High tones over more equal segments of the VDI scale. I may be wrong on this and I welcome thought out reasons to the contrary.

I'm still acclimating. I'm spending about 50% time in Pro mode and 50% in Standard, although I am using Zero mode until I wear out for the day, then it's Standard->Coins. Then when I'm REALLY pooped, it's Standard->Coins and only belltones.

Thats the way I run mine also....especially at the beach. I like the AT Pro so much I purchased 2 more of them today...pick them up on Thursday.

I've only used pro mode with zero disc. it has found me three gold and three silver, but i'm going to try that custom mode Jerry uses just to see if it works in my area with the nails and foil. When I find a target with pro zero i'll switch to custom and compare the results. Gene

Rick I'm curious, if you set your disc to 0 and you now hear the coin, is the coin a high tone and if not, what does the TID show?

I'm getting ready to hunt in some sea of nails ghost towns and am planning to use my AT Pro as my main machine and my F75 LTD as my backup machine, so any edge I can glean on the AT Pro is welcome

As far as I know the only difference between Custom and Zero Modes is the Custom Mode retains your settings when you turn the At Pro off. The only difference between Custom Mode, Disc 40, Iron Audio ON and Pro Zero, 00, Iron Audio off is the presence or absence of the Iron Audio. The break points between tones is the same but the response time is not. Zero mode with these settings has a smoother sound but I think it is in effect averaging the signal.

This is just something I have been playing around with but only have a couple of months using the At Pro so I am still experimenting and looking for other opinions. I hope I am not creating confusion on something that may or may not be of importance.

Jerry, you make good since, so if you hit on a really good setting let us know and we'll give it a try, I'll do the same,Thanks Gene

In Pro zero with 0 iron you hear a very low (pleasent tone) for iron. It separates very fast hitting every target. You have 3 tones, low iron, medium nickels/pulltabs/foil, and a high tone coins. And the meters does work. Best way not to miss anything.

Isn't pro mode disc 40 w/iron audio on, the same as pro zero/disc 0 w/iron audio off?

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian,

The break points for the tones is exactly the same however there is a difference between running the Iron Audio or not. With the Iron Audio on I think you hear a lot more nuances of the tones like the "da-lop" that you get on zinc penny's and bottle caps. Going to Pro Zero - 00 and turning Iron Audio off will give the same tones but I think it is more averaged and not with those little details as when Iron Audio is on.
My only point in mentioning setting up the custom mode with a Disc of 40 is it make a very convenient way to switch back and forth without having to press the Disc button 40 times every time you want to change.

Hello, I run my Garrett AT-PRO in pro-mode with sensativity at two bars from max also i run the iron disc at 40 maxed and i run it off but i only turn it on when i get a iffy deep signal that i suspect might be iron also i run disc at 0-50 notched and when it is really trashy i up it too 70 it helps lesson the noise. These settings are what i use all the time and i have found many old coins among alot of junk and iron litter.
