I like my X2 and all but I just don't understand why

it has to be so darn heavy and unbalanced. Also why does it need 8 freak'n batteries!

If Minelabe could figure out how to make it the size and weight of my backup the x50 that would be something.

I'm still using my old Explorer XS and yes, there are times when my arm gets tired, but if it's a fruitful day then I'll put up with the sore arm that goes along with the territory........... :) Suck it up and be thankful that nobody has come up with a better machine than Minelab has as far as I am concerned. I used it on the WOT. It makes a big difference. I used it for a while but then went back to the sore arm and 10" coil. I think if you got use to using the swingy thing it would be great. It is not very expensive so give it a shot. I think they are under $40.

Most Explorer users have the rod extended too long. You need to shorten the rod enough so that your elbow is perfectly straight, not bent. This puts the coil closer to your feet and may take some getting used to, but your arm will not get fatigued. Actually better too since it tends to slow you down which is how you need to hunt with the Explorer. This was one of the best tips someone on this forum gave a while back. I noticed an immediate difference once I tried it.

I got one. The length need in front of me is not the length need on each side during swing. I find myself pushing down to keep detector close to ground. I use the Swingy Thing on the Excal to keep up with it in the water. Still need a light Explorer.

If it took 12 batteries, but got twice the depth would you still complain????????????????????????? I have a hard time understanding people whining about how heavy the Explorers are, if you don't like it, buy something lighter. And I hope the next Explorer is twice as heavy, cause I'm not swinging it for comfort, I swing it to find stuff and you will never hear me whine unless it stops finding stuff, then and only then will I complain. Mine lab..... make it better...... make it deeper, and if that happens to make it heavier, well that's a cross I'd love to bare.:nopity:

Now that that's said, 1. Make sure your lower rod is not too far extended.
2. Buy an 8 inch Sun Ray coil (way lighter, easier to handle, almost the same coverage) and build your muscles up to the ten inch. Search for my post about 4 or 5 months ago about keeping your arm straight, I went into it in pretty good detail and it will help you allot. And I'm not picking on you specifically about complaining about the weight, but in two months when your used to it, you're gonna wonder what would the machine be like if they gave it twelve volts and every time they think about improving it, someone in the room says "that will add too much weight" and hence, you are holding less of a machine then Mine lab could achieve if they didn't have such constrictions that this, your post, and other posts like it entail. Eat ya Wheaties and good luck to ya.

Seems like 8 batteries is kinda the standard (personal experience).

I own a Whites XLT = 8 AA batteries.
I also own a Garrett GTA1000 = 8 AA batteries.

I notice there is a balance issue that affects weight with the machine. Makes it feel coil heavy. I've adopted the technique of shortening the shaft length.. and that helps quite a bit.

My .02

Thanks!

I used one last season. I can swing twice as long before i tire out. It takes just a little getting used to and just the right adjustment but its worth every penny you'll pay for it. All that being said imho if Whites can make a detector(DFX) that i can swing all day without any aids why can't Minelab?
