I know this will sound stupid, but what is a WOT coil?

n/t

It's the big 15 inch "WONDERFUL ORANGE THING" coil, made by Coiltek. The same one that's on my (to get) list.

Wild Orange Thing...sort of looks like a basketball rim and I believe started out with the Sov. series of detectors..Some swear by them for coverage and extra depth on beaches and large fields..Good design and actually not that heavy and although pricey many do well with them..

Hi jspoon first wow !! this is a old post 2007, lol nope WOT stands for Wonderful Orange Thing made by Coiltek they used to make all of Minelab,s coils until Minelab made there own in-house coils back in 1996 i think ? the WOT is still made in Australia . HH Jim

Don't have one to measure but always heard it's actual size is 14.25". Saw one guy on a video hunt around a tree that another flagship me went over first and didn't find any signals, where then a guy with a Sovereign used the WOT following in the same foot steps of the other guy. He ended up getting a solid hit and dug down VERY deep to recover a shotgun shell. Can't remember off hand how deep it was but it was I think all the way down to his elbow or very near that at least. Just remember thinking "no way...it's going to be a big piece of junk". I doubt a coil that big would do well in my soil, as the 15x12 seemed to cost me depth sucking up too much ground matrix to see gains in depth on coin/ring sized targets.
