I run my coil wire straight up the shaft from the coil for a little ways. After it's up past the first collar where the lower shaft meets the next one up, that's where I use another Velcro strap then start to wrap the coil wire around the shaft. I use Velcro at a few points to include up by the connector to act as a bit of a strain relief. I have maybe 8 - 10 feet of Velcro left from a large roll I bought years ago.
Habit I guess... - Also all my extra coils now have a lower shaft connected. (I have about a half dozen extra shafts among all my machines - I wonder if that means I'm short on extra coils - hummm)...
